Songjeong, Ulsan hangover soup spot with baby chairs: Boksan Haejang

In short

Boksan Haejang is a haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant on Songjeong29-gil in Buk-gu, Ulsan, run by the owner of Boksan Donkkaseu. A couple visited at noon on a Sunday and ordered the Boksan haejangguk for 11,000 won and a large yukhoe (beef tartare) bibimbap for 16,000 won; every table was taken, but seats turned over quickly and the wait was short. With baby chairs and roadside parking, Boksan Haejang works well for a lunch in Songjeong with a child in tow.

How long is the wait at noon on a Sunday?

We visited around noon on a Sunday and the place was completely full! There might be a short wait. Still, turnover is fast, so you don't have to wait long — tables cleared out pretty quickly.

Three side dishes served at Boksan Haejang

The side dishes are simple, just three kinds, but they were exactly the ones you need, so we liked that. The flavors all worked well with the main dishes too.

How does the Boksan haejangguk taste? A spicy beef gukbap (soup with rice)

My husband's order, the Boksan haejangguk! It comes out in a bubbling-hot stone bowl and stayed piping hot until the last spoonful.

Bubbling-hot stone bowl of Boksan haejangguk

It's a spicy, hearty beef gukbak! Loaded with glass noodles, beef, bean sprouts, radish, and green onion — so satisfying, with a bold spicy kick. My husband said it was exactly what he needed the morning after drinking...

I tried adding perilla seeds to suit my taste, and by the end I mixed rice into the soup and finished the whole bowl!

Large yukhoe bibimbap for 16,000 won, with haejangguk broth alongside

My order, the large yukhoe bibimbap. It comes with a side of the Boksan haejangguk broth too. Even if you only order the bibimbap, you get to taste the haejangguk broth — nice touch.

Lettuce, yukhoe (raw beef), seaweed flakes, egg yolk — the toppings felt generous!!!! And most importantly, the yukhoe was fresh ❤️

Add the sauce and mix it to your taste! The sauce tasted homemade and was really delicious.
