When you eat sashimi in Busan, some days you want the atmosphere to go with it, right? This time I visited Gwanganda Jjji Gwangalli Main Branch, a place that's become well known as a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant. The raw fish was fresh, and on top of that came a generous run of dishes, one after another like a full course, so I was really satisfied. With the Gwangan Bridge view all in one sweep, I also thought it would be a great spot for a date or a family gathering.
Can you see Gwangan Bridge from Gwanganda Jjji?

The window side opens onto a view of Gwangan Bridge, and I was happy with it from the first impression. Honestly, the bridge view from the window seats is just really pretty. It would be nice in daytime too, but I got the feeling the mood gets much better around sunset or when the night view comes on.

The tables in the hall are spaced widely, so it didn't feel cramped, and the atmosphere suits family gatherings, company dinners and dates alike. They even have private rooms!
How much is the dachi course at Gwanganda Jjji?

Gwanganda Jjji has just one menu, a ₩55,000-per-person dachi (set course of many small dishes) course, so there's no agonizing over what to order 📋 This one course brings out lots of different dishes in order. Honestly, at first I thought the price was a bit high, but once the food arrived I completely changed my mind. There's a huge variety and you can feel the care in each dish, so it actually felt like good value.
What food comes out first in the dachi course?

The dachi course starts with basic side dishes like grilled eel, cream shrimp, butter-grilled scallops and assorted seafood. It was a generous spread from the very start, and every dish kept my chopsticks going.
The grilled eel had a faint smoky char and moist flesh that got nuttier the more I chewed. The cream shrimp paired a crispy coating with a smooth cream sauce really well. The butter on the scallops wasn't overpowering, so the shellfish's own savory flavor came through, and eaten warm it was much better.

The food kept coming, and every time I thought "Is this the end?" a new dish showed up and surprised me. 👀 The staff were attentive and reset the table just as we were finishing each plate, so the flow never broke. You know how important flow is, right?
What kinds of sashimi came with the course?

The main sashimi in the course that day was flatfish (olive flounder), sea bream, plaice and sea bass. The sashimi was what I'd looked forward to most, and it beat my expectations. The slices were a good thickness with a great texture, and I could tell the fish was fresh from the first bite.
- Flounder: chewy yet clean-tasting
- Sea bream: sweetness that rises as you chew
- Plaice: a subtle savory depth
- Sea bass: clean taste with a firm, springy texture
Above all, there was no fishy smell at all, so I kept reaching for more.

Sushi rice comes along too, so you can have fun topping it with sashimi and making your own sushi. A little wasabi and just a dip in soy sauce was really good. The freshness would satisfy anyone looking for a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant.
What comes after the sashimi? Finishing with spicy fish stew

After the sashimi, the course carried on with steamed fish, fried shrimp, takoyaki (octopus balls), abalone porridge and finally maeuntang (spicy fish stew). I thought it would be over once the sashimi was gone, but food kept coming right to the end.
The fried shrimp was crispy outside and moist inside, and the steamed fish wasn't over-seasoned, so the fish's flavor really came through. The takoyaki came out warm and worked nicely as a side dish.
And the dish that stuck with me most was the spicy fish stew. The broth was fiery yet refreshing, so even though I hadn't been drinking, it felt like a hangover soother. It was a perfect way to finish after sashimi. Even though I was really full, I kept eating the stew to the end. The variety and portions were so generous that "I'm stuffed" came out on its own.
