What is Marento in Gwangalli like?
Marento is a brunch and Western restaurant right in front of Gwangalli Waterside Park. It is closed on Tuesdays and open 11:00 to 24:00 (last order 23:00). It isn't only a brunch place: there are lunch and dinner dishes and food that goes well with a drink, so it works at any time of day.
Every time I go to Gwangalli I agonize over where to have brunch. This time I visited Marento, which already has a reputation as a great brunch spot there. Being right in front of the Waterside Park, it's perfect for a meal followed by a walk, so let me show you around.
Where to park for Marento
You can use the public parking lot at the Waterside Park in front of the restaurant. Parking is paid, and Marento gives a ₩1,000 parking discount per table.
Marento's atmosphere and seating

The restaurant is much bigger than I expected, and the tables are spaced out so it never felt cramped. It felt clean even before I walked in, and I was surprised by how spacious it is inside.
The mood suits a get-together with friends, a family meal or a date, and it's comfortable enough to enjoy brunch alone too. Daytime brings lots of brunch guests, while the evening menu is good for dinner or a drink, so I imagine the atmosphere shifts a little through the day.
What's on the Marento menu?

The menu ranges from brunch to pasta, pizza and drinking snacks, so I found myself thinking I'd like to come back for dinner too.

The pickles and jalapeños are self-serve, so take as much as you like!
What we ordered and how much it cost
- Ricotta cheese and fruit salad ₩19,000
- Quesadilla ₩18,000
- Mare milk bingsu (shaved ice dessert) ₩15,000

How is the ricotta cheese and fruit salad (19,000 won)?
Marento's ricotta cheese and fruit salad is a plate with a generous helping of ricotta on fresh greens and plenty of seasonal fruit. As a brunch dish it looks really pretty, and just seeing it put me in a good mood.
The ricotta was soft with a rich, nutty flavor, and the freshness of the fruit meant I never got tired of it to the end. It suits anyone who wants a light brunch.

Is Marento's garlic sauce quesadilla (18,000 won) filling?
The quesadilla comes as 3 pieces with a salad, and the pieces are sizable, so it was surprisingly filling. It was one of the dishes I liked most, and the garlic sauce served with it was a stroke of genius.
I thought 3 pieces would be small, but they were bigger than expected. I took a bite and dipped it straight into the garlic sauce, and the savory cheese, the mild tortilla and the flavor of the garlic sauce went really well together.
The filling was generous too, so I tasted cheese in every bite and enjoyed it to the end. It's a brunch menu item, but the portion works fine as a full meal.

How is the Mare milk bingsu (15,000 won) different from regular bingsu?
Marento's Mare milk bingsu is shaved into ice as fine as skeins of thread, so it melts softly in your mouth while still feeling slightly chewy. The milk flavor is very rich, so it was plenty nutty and savory even without piling on condensed milk.
I was pretty full and honestly thought I wouldn't finish it, but I ended up scraping up every last spoonful.

Soybean powder and red bean served on the side
The soybean powder (kongga-ru) and red bean (pat) come on the side, so you can put as much as you like on your own plate. I really liked this.
Rather than having everything mixed in from the start, you can decide whether to add more soybean powder or more red bean, so I never got tired of it. The nuttiness of the soybean powder went really well with the rich milk ice, and the red bean wasn't too sweet, so it all balanced nicely. It's a great way to finish a meal.
Who is Marento best for?
- Anyone looking for a great brunch spot in Gwangalli
- Couples looking for a date course
- People who want a relaxed brunch with friends
- Anyone looking for a place for a family meal
- People who also want to take a walk in Waterside Park
My rating for coming back is four stars (⭐⭐⭐⭐). Next time I definitely want to try Marento's dinner menu and pasta.
