Sriracha cheeseburger near Seoul City Hall: Bas Burger Gwanghwamun

I had an errand near City Hall and suddenly it was lunchtime! Trying to figure out what to eat with my kid, we ended up at Bas Burger Gwanghwamun, a great spot to find near Hikeground.

It's walkable from City Hall Station too and close to Cheonggyecheon, so it's a solid pick if you're hunting for restaurants near City Hall Station. Trying it out, not just the burgers but the sides were pretty satisfying too.

Where is Bas Burger Gwanghwamun, and what are the hours?

Bas Burger Gwanghwamun is located on the basement floor of the Gwangil Building, 5 Dadong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul. Hours are Mon–Sat 10:30–20:45, with a break time from 15:00–16:30, and it's closed every Sunday. ※ Please double-check hours before visiting.

It's about 360m from Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station Exit 1-1, and it's well positioned to combine with City Hall, Gwanghwamun, and Cheonggyecheon. It's also close to Hikeground, so it's an easy stop before or after a visit there. Cheonggyecheon is right nearby too, so on a nice day it might be nice to get your burger to go and eat it by the stream.

Inside Bas Burger Gwanghwamun: roomier than expected

Head down to the basement and Bas Burger Gwanghwamun opens up into a space that's bigger than you'd expect. There's a variety of table types, including seating good for groups, so it works well for lunch and just as well for burgers and a beer in the evening.

It wasn't overwhelming to visit with a kid, and I'd also recommend it as a date spot after checking out Hikeground and Cheonggyecheon together.

What we ordered for lunch with a child

We ordered the sriracha cheeseburger set, double bacon cheeseburger, mozza cheese bar, and crunch chicken.

Sriracha cheeseburger set: how spicy is it?

First up, the sriracha cheeseburger, which I really liked!

Cheeseburgers can get a little heavy the more you eat, but the sriracha's spicy kick steps in and balances everything out. The savory cheese and spicy sauce combo is oddly addictive. The thick patty works well with the sauce and takes the whole thing up a notch.

Double bacon cheeseburger

The double bacon cheeseburger is as filling as the name suggests. With two patties, you get a solid meaty bite right away, and with bacon and cheese added on top it's great for anyone who likes a heavy burger. Perfect for a hungry lunch!

Sides worth adding: mozza cheese bar and crunch chicken

If you're going with a kid, the mozza cheese bar is hard to skip. The mozzarella cheese stretches out in a long pull, which is fun and savory — my kid especially loved it. It's fun to photograph too.

And more impressive than expected was the crunch chicken. It wasn't just crispy — 'crackling' is the better word for how crunchy the texture really was.

It made me want a beer the second I took a bite, which was almost a little frustrating. Next time I want to come in the evening and have it with a beer.

The self-serve bar with free potato chips

Bas Burger has a self-serve bar so you can grab whatever sauce you need without any hassle. Mustard, ketchup, pepper — everything you'd need is well stocked.

Being able to freely grab James chips was personally a highlight for me. While waiting for the burgers, I kept picking up one after another without noticing.

If you're looking for a filling meal after checking out Hikeground, or hunting for a restaurant near City Hall Station, it's worth a visit.

A place where you can enjoy burgers and chicken together, and it was fine to visit with a kid too. Good for lunch during the day, and for burgers with a light beer in the evening — this was Bas Burger Gwanghwamun, a restaurant near Hikeground.
