Verdict: a worthwhile stop when mulhoe is non-negotiable on a Gangneung trip.

The 6-piece set with flavors like abai, gochu japchae (stir-fried pepper and glass noodles), mentaiko cream, and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) stayed crispy even after being packed and eaten later as a late-night snack at the accommodation, with generous fillings in every piece. A good add-on when buying just fried chicken from the market feels like not quite enough.
Moana Burger is a handmade burger restaurant near Chodang-dong Sundubu Village in Gangneung, Gangwon. On a Friday evening, two diners ordered the Moana Burger, a double burger, and buffalo wings (8 pieces) with no waiting at all, and found that the spicy buffalo wings cut through the richness of the burgers perfectly. Go for the Moana Burger if you want something clean and light, or the double burger if you want a heavier, meat-forward bite.
Sokcho Geu Badaro is a seafood soy sauce (haemuljang) and hot-pot rice restaurant near Sokcho Beach, Gangwon. A couple booked an 11am table on day two of their Gangwon trip and ordered potato hot-pot rice and haemuljang, arriving as one plate loaded with octopus leg, shrimp, salmon, crab, abalone and scallop, plus staff tips on dipping it in egg yolk. The haemuljang wasn't salty or fishy at all, making this a lunch spot the writer wants to revisit in Sokcho.
Maru Pension Camping Site is a pension-and-campground stay right on the Pyeongchang River in Juchon-myeon, Yeongwol, Gangwon. A one-night September stay in Room 105, a double, brought a window full of river view, stars pouring down at 8:30pm, and a riverside seat made from the room's own chair and table. If you want a quiet stay without hauling gear, Maru Pension Camping Site fits well.

Arriving on a cloudy day, the writer ordered nakji haejangguk (octopus hangover soup) for 2 at ₩13,000 per person, and the deep, refreshing broth was packed with octopus, tofu and bean sprouts. Deungdae Gotgan is a good stop when you need a hot bowl of hangover soup in Sokcho.
