Gangneung sashimi restaurant with mulhoe sets: Samsami-ne
In short
Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch is a sashimi restaurant near Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. I enjoyed the ₩70,000 assorted sashimi and mulhoe set for two, although some individual lunch dishes may be unavailable on weekend afternoons. Verdict: a worthwhile stop when mulhoe is non-negotiable on a Gangneung trip.

Whenever I come to Gangneung, I almost always have mulhoe (cold raw-fish soup)! Haha, it’s kind of like part of the itinerary.. It isn’t easy to find mulhoe in Seoul that’s delicious, generous, and good value, so I always end up having it on a Gangneung trip. But this time, I tried somewhere new!

It was Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch (삼삼이네 경포대본점). I’ve paid my own way to try mulhoe at several places in Gangneung, and this one was another great find..! I especially loved the good-value set that lets you enjoy sashimi too.
Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch: location and dining room
Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch is on the Gyeongpo Beach waterfront. There are lots of sashimi restaurants once you pass the row of Gyeongpo Beach accommodations, and this one was right near the entrance, around the middle of the beach.

I thought, “Have I heard of this place..? Have I seen that sign before..?” And of course! It turned out to be the formerly well-known Gimgun Baggunsashimi Restaurant from Chodang-dong, relocated and newly opened here with a Gyeongpo ocean view.
Hours: 11:30 AM–11:00 PM / No break time / Closed Wednesdays Location: 260-26 Gangmun-dong, Gangneung-si, Gangwon

We visited at 1:30 PM on a weekend. It was bustling and full because there were group diners, but it had relaxed a bit by the time we left.

The restaurant is all on one floor, so it looked small from outside, but it went quite far back inside and was bigger than I expected.
Weekend lunch menu and ordering limits

You self-order through the kiosk at each table. The menu had several sets, including the value assorted sashimi + mulhoe for two, value red sea bream yubiki (lightly blanched sashimi) + mulhoe for two, and the ₩130,000 signature yubiki sashimi + mulhoe + spicy fish stew for two. There were also individual dishes such as mulhoe and hoe-deopbap (rice bowl topped with raw fish).

Honestly, we thought the value set would be too much food, so we had planned to order one mulhoe and a single-person sushi set... The menu I found online said the single-person sushi set could be ordered from one serving, but when we tried ordering in person, it required at least two servingsㅠㅠ They also said individual meal dishes such as a single mulhoe couldn’t really be ordered during busy weekend daytime hours. I’d put some effort into choosing the menu, so it was a little disappointing, but..!

We just ordered the value assorted sashimi + mulhoe set for two instead. It was ₩70,000!

Considering it’s a sashimi restaurant by Gyeongpo Beach, that seems like pretty good value, right?
Mulhoe with wonderfully tender fish
When the food arrived, the first thing I tried was the mulhoe.

At first, I was a little disappointed that it came with only one portion of somyeon (thin wheat noodles). I added noodles and got around three more bundles, so personally, I think extra noodles are essential haha.

The fish in the mulhoe had the tender texture I love. I prefer fish that bites softly over fish that is chewy and firm, so the fish in this mulhoe was totally my style! The seasoning was perfectly balanced too!!!! Totally my kind of seasoning.. it was so good. Personally, I officially rate this as a great Gangneung mulhoe spot!!
Thick-cut assorted sashimi and DIY sushi
Even though it was a value set, I thought there wouldn’t be much sashimi, but there was quite a lot! It was more than enough for two people. The selection included flounder, yellowtail, and red sea bream.

Each variety had a slightly different texture and flavor, so it was fun picking through them. Above all, the fish was fresh! It wasn’t sliced thin; everything was cut thick, so it had a satisfying bite.

The fish in the mulhoe was tender, while the assorted sashimi was thick-cut and nicely chewy! We ate the sashimi plain, or put it with wasabi on the prepared sushi rice.

Eating it this way made for easy DIY sushi, which I really liked haha. There was also a generous amount of seasoned vegetables.

So we added some to the mulhoe and ate some with the sashimi. If you keep eating only sashimi, it can start to feel a little rich, but the tangy seasoned vegetables cut right through that richness. Sashimi + seasoned vegetables was a great combo too!!!

Besides sashimi and mulhoe, the set came with cooked shrimp, aged kimchi, wraps, garlic, chili peppers, sushi rice, egg soup, and more.

The egg soup seemed a little thinner than regular steamed egg. We also joined the review event and received another egg soup haha!

A spoonful of warm egg soup between bites of sashimi paired really well. Same with the mulhoe!
Cup mulhoe and a Gyeongpo ocean view
Such an interesting item!!! I noticed when we came in that they also sell takeout mulhoe. It comes in cup form, so it looked ideal when you want a light mulhoe rather than a huge serving full of fish. Picking one up near Gyeongpo Beach for a simple mulhoe meal sounds nice too. Disposable aprons were available for self-service. Haha.

Although it’s on the first floor, the ocean view was still quite good, so I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a Gangneung ocean-view sashimi restaurant too!
For sashimi and mulhoe together in Gyeongpo
💛 If you’re looking for a Gangneung Gyeongpo sashimi restaurant, Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch was a good option when you want both sashimi and mulhoe near Gyeongpo Beach.

The value assorted sashimi + mulhoe set in particular was plenty of food for two people,

and the mulhoe was delicious, with the tender fish I like and seasoning that was just right. The assorted sashimi had several kinds of fresh fish, including flounder, yellowtail, and red sea bream, all sliced thick, with a lovely tender-chewy bite.

I also liked being able to enjoy different combinations with the sushi rice and seasoned vegetables. Since some dishes may be unavailable when it’s busy on weekend afternoons, I recommend checking the menu before visiting.~~ If you’re like me and think, “I have to eat mulhoe on a Gangneung trip!” this is a Gangneung Gyeongpo sashimi restaurant worth stopping by near Gyeongpo Beach at least once :)
