Scallop and yukhoe sushi after a 4-team wait: Pohang Ocheon-eup

Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant on Namwon-ro in Ocheon-eup, Pohang, where every plate is a flat 2,200 won. The writer dropped in by chance while out for a Danggeun Market handover, waited behind 4 groups, then ate three plates of salmon per person plus big scallop and yukhoe (raw beef) sushi and pineapple for dessert. With no plate colors to worry about, Hojueseo on Hoejeon Chobap is a satisfying stop for anyone who loves sushi.

Outdoor table decaf americano at Uyang Museum café: Bibibidang

Bibibidang Gyeongju is a tea and coffee café on the first floor of the Uyang Museum in Gyeongju's Bomun District. Sitting at an outdoor table with her mom and husband, the writer had a decaf americano, a café latte and a strawberry latte, plus complimentary dasik (traditional sweets) and nut chocolate. If you want coffee, art and a grassy walking path all in one visit, Bibibidang Gyeongju is a great choice.

Wide parking, spacious seating, and baby chairs made it an easy family visit, and the melon bread came generously filled with cream.

Pohang mulhoe restaurant for early lunch with self bar: Ppwang Mulhoe

Ppwang Mulhoe is a pink-signed seafood restaurant in the Seolmeori mulhoe district near Yeongildae Beach in Pohang. Visiting for an early lunch, the writer ordered the Ppwang emperor's anju mulhoe (raw seafood in cold broth) for ₩40,000, whole steamed squid for ₩15,000, and squid pancake for ₩15,000, plus buffet-level side dishes from the self bar. The anju mulhoe packed with squid, abalone, sea cucumber and sea squirt, topped with icy broth, brought the whole seaside feeling right to the table.

Dokdo shrimp with a 3-person snow crab course at Jukdo Market, Pohang

Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center is a crab and sashimi course restaurant inside Jukdo Market in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. The writer ordered the Bakdal Special 3-person set plus a side order of 4 Dokdo shrimp, working through pufferfish skin salad, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), steamed bakdal snow crab and a crab-broth ramyeon finish, with extra silky clams, shrimp and nakji tangtangi (chopped live octopus) thrown in for free. Even the writer's picky elementary-schooler cleaned the crab plate — a generous, well-served course worth the trip into the market.

Aged sashimi rice bowl solo dining at Sonsi Sushi, Hayang branch

Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch is a sushi restaurant across from Hayang Station in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk. The value set (8 pieces of aged sashimi sushi, large udon, aged vinegar-gochujang sashimi rice bowl, 4 fried shrimp) plus ankimo futomaki and a small aged assorted sushi platter filled the table, and the salmon-loaded rice bowl explains why so many solo diners come here. With 5 tables and a bar counter, solo dining is easy and turnover is fast enough that waits stay under 5 minutes.

Timer event and buying 3 pies solo at Gyeongju Tokyo Pie

Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is a handmade pie shop in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju that bakes and sells everything same-day. Arriving just before the 2:30pm second bake, the writer bought one each of the Gyeongju Tokyo Pie (apple), Tokyo Red Bean Pie, and Tokyo Chocolate Pie at ₩4,500 each, plus tried the timer event and got a free Americano from a receipt review. The apple pie was the favorite of the three, not overly sweet — a satisfying visit for a pie lover.

Kid-friendly pork BBQ set with kiosk ordering in Gyeongsan

Kkotdwaeji Sikdang Gyeongsan Branch is a table-grilled pork restaurant at the entrance to the Oksan-dong restaurant alley in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk. Visiting with a 4-year-old, the writer ordered the gourmet set of pork belly, pork neck, and pork jowl, added two servings of fried rice, and received a free daechang (beef intestine) hot pot for arriving before 5pm. With its own parking lot, group seating, and a prize-draw gift for kids, it made for a satisfying family meal out.

Korean restaurant with kid-friendly Cheomseongdae rib patty: Hwangnam

Hwangnam Dukkebi Restaurant Hwangnam Main Branch is a hanok-style Korean restaurant in Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju, serving Cheomseongdae-shaped dishes. Ordering the Cheomseongdae 7-piece set and cheese royal-tomb steamed egg, the adults enjoyed Beolgyo cockles and flying fish roe perilla wraps while the usually picky kid nearly finished the Cheomseongdae tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) alone. For a Korean meal with a kid in Hwangnidan-gil, Hwangnam Dukkebi delivers fun along with the food.

Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang is a snow crab and live sashimi restaurant on the crab street inside Jukdo Market in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. Unable to eat sashimi while pregnant on a babymoon trip, the writer ordered the two Russian bakdal snow crabs menu without sashimi, working through banchan, seafood, crab roe fried rice and spicy stew. The crab meat filled even the small legs, making this a solid Jukdo Market crab restaurant recommendation, especially when reserved in advance for seating and perks.

Buja Hodu is a rice-dough walnut pastry shop at the entrance to Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju. Visiting with a baby on their first Gyeongju trip, the writer took the Best Mix (red bean, pea cream cheese, matcha) to a picnic spot near Daereungwon, and the low-sugar red bean filling with plenty of walnuts was the standout. It also sits far enough from the Hwangnidan-gil crowds to make a good breather on any Gyeongju itinerary.
