We ordered 2 portions of boneless braised cutlassfish at ₩18,000 and two stone-pot rice servings at ₩4,000, with buckwheat pancake, acorn jelly, tteokgalbi, and nurungji to follow. A generous, bone-free spicy meal that is especially lovely with parents.
Sonsi Sushi is a sushi restaurant near Yeungnam University Station in Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk. A regular of 10 years tried the ₩18,000 aged premium 12-piece nigiri set, shrimp tempura, udon, and complimentary tuna in its newly expanded dining room. Verdict: a sure-fire choice for aged sushi or a date meal in Gyeongsan.

At 2:30 p.m. on a weekday, the display was nearly empty, so I chose a mixed set; the crisp pastry and not-too-sweet apple flavor were especially good. Verdict: Gyeongju Tokyo Pie is worth buying two boxes from when you need a gift.

After walking through the orange cosmos, I had a café latte and vanilla latte and took in the second-floor view and terrace. Verdict: Yard is a lovely stop for flowers, photos, and a relaxing latte.

I ordered its mango smoothie topped with half a whole mango and a 3,900-won promotional watermelon juice for their rich fruit flavor and showstopping looks. Verdict: a café I’d happily revisit for fresh fruit drinks.

My mother and I had two loach soup sets, fried loach, and shredded-potato pancake, with turmeric rice, tender boiled pork, and lightly seasoned grilled mackerel standing out. Verdict: worth the weekend wait for a family meal.

Hoetjip Jin is a sashimi takeout restaurant inside Guryongpo Market in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. We ordered the 3–4-person Assorted Sashimi B for ₩50,000, and the ice packs and insulated bag kept it fresh after Guryongpo Japanese House Street. A tidy, reliable sashimi takeout stop for a Guryongpo trip.
