Korean restaurant in Gumi for spicy beef stew: Hanjaechon
In short
Hanjaechon Gumi Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Indong, Gumi, Gyeongbuk, serving Korean beef so-jjigae and yukhoe. I had spicy Korean beef so-jjigae and a tasting portion of yukhoe, then took home a 2-serving stew kit to cook with glass noodles and bean sprouts. Verdict: a hearty pick when you’re craving a hot, spicy broth meal.

I visited Hanjaechon Gumi Main Branch (한재촌 구미본점), a great place to stop by when you want a hearty, delicious meal in Indong, Gumi 🤎

At Hanjaechon Gumi Main Branch, you can find Korean beef so-jjigae (beef stew), Korean beef yukhoe bibimbap, Korean beef yukhoe mulhoe, odoregi gui, and mung bean pancakes. You can use nearby parking facilities, and takeout is available too.

Gumi Korean food with Korean beef and Hanjae minari
Hanjaechon, one of Gumi’s hottest restaurants!!! This is the main branch that has been all over social media lately. From so-jjigae loaded with fresh beef and healthful minari (water parsley), to yukhoe bibimbap packed with Korean beef, tangy-sweet yukhoe mulhoe that gets your appetite going, and nutty mung bean pancakes ground in-house! Hanjaechon gets both taste and health in one go~ 👍🏻

Hanjaechon takes its name from Hanjae Village in Cheongdo. I heard it brings local food culture into Korean dishes by using Hanjae minari, which Cheongdo is known for, along with Korean beef.

Spicy Korean beef so-jjigae and tasting yukhoe
One big plus is that it opens early in the morning, so you can eat here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I ordered Hanjaechon’s signature spicy Korean beef so-jjigae and a tasting portion of yukhoe (seasoned raw beef). The spicy Korean beef so-jjigae is more fiery than the regular version! This one is seriously something else. Perfect with rice, perfect with drinks—it completely won over my taste buds, Hanjaechon 👍🏻👍🏻

Self-serve bar and home-style side dishes
After ordering, it was time for a tour of the self-serve bar. There was bean sprout soup, stir-fried seaweed stems, braised burdock root, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), two kinds of stir-fried mushrooms, garlic, and ssamjang. They were homemade, wonderfully home-style side dishes.

They also served seasoned peppers and fresh radish salad as the basic sides, haha. The delicious stir-fried fish cake was the best. A healthy Korean spread for ₩10,000, with beef-loaded so-jjigae and all these side dishes!! Shall we treat ourselves to a wholesome, filling meal? 😊

Hanjaechon’s proud signature dish: spicy Korean beef so-jjigae for two! It looks incredibly generous, right? Loads of beef + loads of minari + lots of garlic and glass noodles. Just bring it to a rolling boil for 7 minutes before eating.
The tasting yukhoe was raw beef mixed together with garlic and sesame oil ㅠㅠ Even the aroma was nutty and so good with rice. It was an amazing match with the crisp minari!!!

Ready to enjoy Hanjaechon 🧡

The pairing of yukhoe and peppery so-jjigae
The yukhoe is a must at Hanjaechon! Their yukhoe bibimbap is also so delicious. It comes with fresh Korean beef yukhoe, crisp vegetables, and minari to mix into the rice. I wasn’t confident I could finish both so-jjigae and yukhoe bibimbap, so switching to the tasting yukhoe was an excellent choice 🤎
The so-jjigae uses Korean beef graded 1+ or higher, with plenty of beef in a deeply simmered broth. Its peppery yet rich broth is just fantastic. You could easily polish off a whole bowl of rice with it, haha.

A newly rising 🍚 rice thief: so-jjigae. Especially if you love hot broth, you will absolutely! love it so~ much, haha. Unlike pork stew, it was less greasy, with a nutty flavor that spread pleasantly and a cleaner finish.

Hanjaechon so-jjigae & yukhoe, a wholesome meal enjoyed with rice and side dishes. The spicy so-jjigae is perfect for a hangover, seriously. It is great drinking food, of course, but you really can’t beat it as a hangover meal.

Taking home 2 servings of so-jjigae to cook
Hanjaechon was too delicious to end with just the meal, so I went ahead and got a 2-serving takeout order of so-jjigae too!!! Takeout is available in 2-serving portions. When you order, they pack the ingredients prepared that day and the broth separately, haha. Fresh so-jjigae every single day 👍🏻

Hanjaechon’s so-jjigae takeout comes in two containers—one of ingredients and one of broth—and there was so~ much more than I expected 👍🏻 Here’s how to enjoy it: first bring the broth to a rolling boil in a pot, then add the beef, minari, and seasoning all at once and cook. The takeout kit did not include glass noodles, haha, so I added glass noodles and bean sprouts from home to relive the Hanjaechon magic one more time 😊
