Mexican restaurant near Magok Station with taco-whiskey pairing

In short

Taqueros Magok Main Branch is a Mexican taco restaurant on the 2nd floor of Magok GMG Tower near Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul. The writer ordered the Signature Couple Set for Two with a fajita platter (chicken, shrimp, pulled pork and taco meat) plus two tacos, and the free nacho chips even came with a refill. With a drinks menu built for taco-and-whiskey pairing, it's a solid spot for a beer on the way home from work.

Do you like tacos? There are a lot of great restaurants around Magok, and among them I visited Taqueros, where you can get proper Mexican tacos. From the outside alone it had that lively, vintage Mexican vibe. It kind of reminded me of the old T.G.I. Friday's, with a bit of a family restaurant feel too.

An evening mood even in the daytime

The first thing that catches your eye from the entrance is the sleek interior blending deep red tones with vintage wood. The details translate Mexico's passionate, lively energy into something stylish, and the lighting and sculptural objects placed throughout create a warm mood without overdoing it. Even though I visited during the day, it felt like evening — the interior was pleasantly dim, lit with soft pin lighting for a cozy atmosphere.

Do tacos and whiskey actually go together?

Honestly, I only just learned this — apparently tacos and whiskey are a perfect pairing! That's probably why there were whiskey bottles displayed around the restaurant. Once you know, you start noticing it everywhere haha.

Why do they pair so well (pairing explanation, courtesy of GPT)

  • Fat-cutting and palate-cleansing effect — tacos with fatty meats (chadolbagi, pork, birria, etc.) and cheese tend to coat the mouth, so a sip of high-proof whiskey cleanly cuts through the grease.
  • Synergy of spice and smokiness — the cumin, chili, and oregano in tacos, plus the smoky char of grilled meat, meet whiskey's own oak-smoke, vanilla, and spicy notes to boost the flavor even further.
  • Balance of acidity and sweetness — the bold citrus tang from lime-squeezed tacos contrasts with the sweetness of bourbon or sherry-cask whiskey, keeping your appetite going.

The drinks selection is really wide — they even have soju 😵 But going by the menu, I'd recommend beer or whiskey as the best pairing! 🥃 I'll have to try tacos with whiskey next time.

We ordered the Signature Couple Set for Two

The menu was really varied. I picked the Taqueros Signature Couple Set for Two! I chose the fajita, and 2 tacos were also included in the set.

Description of the Taqueros Signature Couple Set for Two
Table set with cutlery
Crispy free nacho chips

They brought out free nacho chips before the meal, and they were crispy — perfect as a beer snack! And they even refilled them for us, which was a nice touch.

The fajita platter: 4 kinds of meat plus cheese sauce

Our fajita platter arrived. 🤲 There were 4 kinds of meat — smoky grilled chicken, shrimp, hand-pulled pulled pork (carnitas), and ground taco meat — plus a side of cheese sauce that was great for dipping.

Warm tortillas served in a basket

The warm tortillas came out in a basket, and layering whichever meat combo you like with the sauce and wrapping it up was seriously delicious.

Two tacos included in the set

Tacos and a beer on the way home from work

The two tacos included in the set — honestly, these alone were filling. If you're tired of the usual samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) or pasta you always end up eating around Magok, this is a great spot to grab tacos and a cold beer on the way home from work. I'm planning to go back again soon after work.
