Spam gimbap and dakgangjeong at a Gyodae Station gimbap shop: Halls
In short
Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a handmade gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and dakgangjeong (crispy sweet fried chicken) shop in an alley near Exit 1 of Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. The shop was previously a franchise branch and only the name on the sign changed, as the owner, the gimbap cook and the fried chicken cook all stayed, so the spam gimbap and the Jindo scallion tuna gimbap with dakgangjeong set taste the same: thin rice, densely packed fillings, and chicken made from domestic chilled thigh meat trimmed that morning with a house sauce. For solo meals or takeout near Gyodae Station, Halls Gimbap Main Branch is an easy recommendation.

A gimbap and fried chicken spot right by Gyodae Station! Great for eating alone, and a solid gimbap restaurant recommendation for the Gyodae area. Halls Gimbap Main Branch.

The rice is rolled thin and the fillings are packed in, so I'd recommend this gimbap (seaweed rice roll) place even to people watching their diet — it's a handmade gimbap spot that uses fresh ingredients with real care. And the fried chicken here is incredible! Honestly better than a lot of dedicated fried chicken places. If you ever need to eat alone or grab takeout near Gyodae Station, definitely try Halls Gimbap Main Branch :) Let me explain why in more detail! 👇🏻
Halls Gimbap Main Branch: new sign, same cooks
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a short walk from Exit 1 of Gyodae Station, in the spot that used to be the Seocho branch of another gimbap franchise. But the owner, the counter staff, the fried chicken cook and the gimbap-making staff (the "gimbap imo" — literally "gimbap aunties") are all exactly the same as before, so the taste hasn't changed at all. There's a chicken-and-gimbap combo place near my office that I really like, but honestly Halls Gimbap Main Branch is way better.

Tucked into an alley, it's a go-to spot for solo diners in the Gyodae area, but it also works fine for groups, and it does a huge amount of takeout and delivery too. It's especially good for Gyodae office workers who want something quick but filling. If you're around the area, you have to try it.

Opening days and closing times at Halls Gimbap
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is open every day except Sunday, and closes at 3pm on Saturdays. If you live nearby and want something simple, tasty and filling for dinner, I'd recommend eating in or getting it to go!

Can you eat alone at Halls Gimbap?
Like I said, this is a go-to spot for solo dining in Gyodae! Halls Gimbap Main Branch has plenty of bar-style seats where you can sit by yourself. There's also a big table in the middle, so it works well when Gyodae office workers come in together for lunch.

Check the photo above for the full menu at a glance! There's also a country-of-origin board, so you can honestly see where the fresh ingredients come from.

How to order and what gimbap is on the menu
Halls Gimbap Main Branch has easy kiosk ordering. Zero Pay is also accepted, but only at the counter! Check the photo above for the menu.
As a gimbap restaurant in Gyodae, Halls Gimbap has a genuinely wide range of rolls. The Jindo scallion tuna gimbap is the signature menu item. There's an insane amount of tuna packed in, with the mayonnaise cut way down and more tuna added in its place. So it's really filling when you eat it!
- Jindo scallion tuna gimbap (signature menu)
- Double cheese egg gimbap
- Konjac and minari (water dropwort) gimbap
- Wasabi gimbap
- Spam gimbap
- Seocho-dong nurungji (scorched rice) tteokbokki
They also have a Seocho-dong nurungji tteokbokki (scorched rice stir-fried rice cakes) that's supposed to be really good too — I'll have to come back and try that next time. If it's your first time at Halls Gimbap, just order whatever gimbap and fried chicken sounds good to you. The combo set with both gimbap and fried chicken is also great value and works well as a solo meal.

There are various payment options, which makes things more convenient.

They also have a really wide selection of drinks and instant ramyeon!!

Spam gimbap and the Jindo scallion tuna gimbap with dakgangjeong set
I ordered the spam gimbap and the Jindo scallion tuna gimbap as a fried chicken set.

What the spam gimbap tastes like
The spam gimbap had just the right amount of rice — thin, with the filling packed in tight. It's made with original Spam, so the ham flavor was insane!!! Plus a generous amount of cucumber and plump egg. And get this, even the eggs are antibiotic-free...

What the Jindo scallion tuna gimbap tastes like
The Jindo scallion tuna gimbap — the filling was insane... Less mayonnaise, way more tuna, with a subtle scallion aroma running through it — the combination is really, really good!

Why people come back for Halls dakgangjeong
You have to try the Halls fried chicken — one bite and you'll be gasping. Once you try it, you'll end up coming back just to buy the fried chicken on its own. I'm actually a regular at that other gimbap franchise too, but no exaggeration, this fried chicken is five times better than the one at my neighborhood branch.
It's made with domestic, refrigerated (never frozen) chicken thigh meat prepped fresh that same dawn, so the inside is completely tender with no gamey smell. And instead of corn syrup, the sauce is homemade!! It's shockingly crispy, and I'd recommend topping each piece with a cheongyang chili (Korean hot green chili)!!
This is a genuinely delicious spot near Gyodae Station, a top pick for solo dining in the Gyodae area, and a real gimbap gem — check the map below for the location and go visit!! 🖤
