On the way home from work, my husband and I visited Solsot Sangam Branch, a hearty pot rice spot known as a great dinner place in Sangam! We both completely fell for the clean, neatly presented meal, and left already thinking we should come back soon with both of our children.

If you want a proper meal during a busy evening, this is somewhere I would visit without hesitation!
The atmosphere at Solsot Sangam Branch after work
When we visited Solsot Sangam Branch after work, the clean atmosphere was the first thing I noticed as soon as we walked in.

We had originally come for a cozy dinner date, just the two of us. But I guess a mom's eyes can't help themselves—I thought of the kids as soon as I looked around the restaurant. There were high chairs, adorable children's tableware, and even bibs, all prepared so thoughtfully.

When you're raising two boys, eating out can mean constantly worrying about cracker crumbs or food being spilled, right? But this place had child-friendly touches throughout, so I thought I would feel so at ease bringing the children here for a family gathering at a Sangam restaurant later. There was also plenty of group seating in the back, so it seemed perfect for daytime get-togethers with neighborhood moms or family gatherings.

A set for two with salmon and cockle pot rice, plus yuringi
We wanted to try a variety of things, so we ordered the set for two, which included drinks, two pot rice dishes, and yuringi chicken.

After some deliberation, my husband chose the savory cockle pot rice, while I went with the tender salmon pot rice. I did wonder a little whether two hungry adults after work would be able to eat their fill.

After a short wait, the pot rice arrived neatly arranged on individual trays.

Salmon pot rice
The moment I lifted the lid on my salmon pot rice, its nutty aroma hit my nose and made my mouth water. It was topped generously with thick, nicely grilled salmon, so I mixed it up with my spoon and took a big bite.

The salmon's rich flavor and the savory seasoning soaked into the rice were delicious! Fish pot rice can sometimes make you worry about a fishy taste, but this one was light and had none of that at all, so I think young children would eat it really well too. Wrapping the salmon pot rice in the seaweed served alongside it made the umami pop even more :)

Cockle pot rice

I stole a spoonful of my husband's cockle pot rice too. It was generously packed with chewy cockles, giving it a wonderful bite, and the sweet-spicy seasoning really clung to the palate.

Even my husband, who is usually a picky eater, couldn't stop lifting his spoon, and that made me feel we had come to the right place.

Yuringi
The yuringi chicken that came with the set was a real standout too. Freshly fried, crisp chicken came together with crunchy cabbage and a bright, savory sauce, making it just right to eat alongside the pot rice.

It was clean-tasting with no greasy feeling at all, adding flavor to a pot rice meal that could otherwise have felt a little simple :)
The final touch for pot rice: scorched-rice soup

But I think Solsot's real highlight may be ending the meal with nurungji sungnyung, a warm scorched-rice soup. You transfer the rice from the pot to a plate, pour in the warm water on the table, then open the lid after your meal to enjoy the savory soup.

After one spoonful of the deeply savory scorched rice steeped in hot broth, it felt as if all the fatigue that had built up during the day melted away, and my stomach settled.

As a working mom balancing child-rearing and work, I tend to be completely drained by evening. But finishing with such warm, savory soup made even my heart feel full.

I was happy with it as a dinner date with my husband, and next time I definitely want to bring both of our children for delicious pot rice too :) If you want a neat, satisfying meal near Sangam-dong, or are looking for a comfortable family gathering spot where you can dine with children, I would recommend stopping by Solsot Sangam Branch!
