Stone-plate jjajang set with handmade menbosha: Ulsan Daewangam Dol
In short
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a stone-plate Chinese restaurant in Dong-gu, Ulsan. The writer ordered the two-person stone jjajang and handmade donchitang set, plus 4 pieces of handmade menbosha (fried mandu bun) — the sauce kept bubbling on the stone plate until the end, and donchitang stood in for the usual sweet-and-sour pork. Free parking out front and a free rice self-bar make it an easy, filling stop for two.

This time I visited Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong, where you eat everything hot off a stone plate until the very end. We went big with the stone jjajang and handmade donchitang two-person set, plus plump menbosha (fried mandu bun) on top 🍜
Instead of the usual sweet-and-sour pork you get at a regular Chinese restaurant, they serve donchitang, which resembles pork cutlet and fried chicken — such a fresh twist. And the menbosha, thick like a plump macaron, was so good!! ✨
Location and parking at Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is on the 1st floor at 6 Ilsanjin 5-gil, Dong-gu, Ulsan. It's a short drive from Ilsanjin Beach, and a good spot to pair with a visit to Daewangam Park 📍

Best of all, there's a private lot right in front of the restaurant, so parking and walking in was really convenient 🚗 It's listed as a free space for about 10 cars. Easy parking turned out to be a pretty big plus haha

There's a sign facing the road too, so the place wasn't hard to spot even at night 👀
Hours and holidays can change, so if you're coming from far away, check Naver Place before you head out 😊
The atmosphere and tablet ordering
Inside, seating stretched out wide on both sides, and the white-toned interior kept everything looking clean overall. If you're looking for a family dinner spot near Ilsanjin in Ulsan, it looked comfortable enough to seat a group 👨👩👧👦

You order from the tablet at the table. You can see menu photos and prices together, which made it easy to choose between dol jjamppong and dol jjajang 👍
I filmed a short video of the order screen too 🎥 We chose the stone jjajang and handmade donchitang two-person set, and added 4 pieces of handmade menbosha.
Prices follow what's shown on Naver Place, so please check the in-store order screen when you visit.

There was also a receipt review event notice on the table. At the time of our visit, writing a review with a photo and video earned you a choice of pomegranate or green grape ade 🍹
A self-bar that even covers rice
The self-bar had a rice cooker, small plates, and extra side dishes all organized in one spot. Rice is free, which went well with the stone jjajang sauce 🍚

Besides pickled radish and onion, there was also spicy-looking green onion kimchi. It was easy to just take what you'll eat, and being able to add rice made the meal feel plenty filling haha
How was the scorched-rice stone jjajang?
As soon as the stone jjajang arrived, the sauce kept bubbling away on the big stone plate 🔥 You could feel the heat even through the photo, and it grabbed my attention the moment it hit the table.

You really have to see how hot it stays in video, so I captured a short clip. The temperature didn't cool down easily until the end, so we could enjoy a warm jjajang even eating slowly 😋

You could spot shrimp and quail eggs between the noodles, and the jjajang sauce was generous too. Mixing the noodles well with the sauce brought out a glossy shine that looked even more appetizing 🥢

Unlike jjajangmyeon served in a regular bowl, the point of Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong's stone jjajang is that the heat keeps going on the stone plate the whole time you eat. The sauce clung tightly to the noodles for a rich flavor that was easy to keep eating 💛

Adding the green onion kimchi switches up your palate, and you can mix leftover sauce with rice from the self-bar. If you're after a filling meal near Daewangam in Ulsan, the two-person stone jjajang was a hearty choice ✨
Handmade donchitang instead of sweet-and-sour pork
The dish I found most interesting was donchitang, which combines handmade pork tang and chicken tang in one. Usually you'd expect sweet-and-sour pork in a Chinese restaurant set, but here the fried pieces resembled pork cutlet and fried chicken — such a fresh twist!!

Thinly sliced onion was piled on top of the fried pieces, and two sauces came separately so we could dip to taste. Being able to switch between pork-cutlet-like and fried-chicken-like flavors within one plate was a nice touch haha

You can even see the crispy batter clearly in the photo 👀 Eating it alongside the stone jjajang, alternating between noodles and fried bites, was a perfect combo. A memorable menu item for anyone looking for an unusual side dish.
Handmade menbosha, thick like a plump macaron
I couldn't pass on the menbosha either, so we ordered 4 extra pieces. The round, thick shape genuinely looked like a plump macaron, and it was so cute 🥰

The outside was fried to a golden brown, and each piece was quite thick, so it had real presence. Dipping it into the accompanying sauce, I thought adding it as a side was a great call 💕

Placing the menbosha next to the stone jjajang made for a truly hearty spread for two. With donchitang and menbosha in the mix too, we ate it all with no fatigue, right to the end haha
Origin labeling and after-meal snacks
On the restaurant wall was an origin label for each ingredient. You could check the source of the rice, pork, various vegetables, squid, giant squid, shrimp, and even kimchi 📝

Near the exit, on the way out after the meal, there were snacks set up for dessert. I thought the meal was simply over, so finding a little dessert waiting felt like a nice surprise 🍪

There was also chilled yogurt in a nearby ice box. Finishing off the warm stone jjajang with a yogurt made the whole meal feel thoroughly complete haha
In summary
The parking lot right in front made it easy to get to, and the stone jjajang, donchitang, and menbosha let us try a combination that's different from your usual Chinese restaurant. The donchitang instead of sweet-and-sour pork, and the plump-macaron-like menbosha, stuck with me the most!! 🙌
