Bucheon ramen restaurant for rich Iekei broth: Gyeoretsu Ramen
In short
Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch is a Japanese ramen restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi. I ordered the Kara Iekei Ramen at medium saltiness and oil with an ajitama egg and fried king dumplings at a packed lunch service. Verdict: a bowl to crave when you want an intensely salty, spicy broth.

A Bucheon ramen spot with an irresistibly rich, intense, high-impact broth.

I was craving something ultra-intense, so I stopped by Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch, a Bucheon ramen favorite, at lunchtime!

True to its reputation as a Bucheon ramen favorite, it was totally full when I arrived at lunch! Luckily, I was dining alone and there was exactly one seat, so I could sit down right away. Keep in mind that there may be a wait during the lunch rush!

Kiosk Ordering and Menu Guide
You can order right away at the kiosk by the entrance. There are explanations for each menu item next to it, so I recommend giving them a read before ordering anything unfamiliar.

How Should You Choose Saltiness and Oil?
Once you choose your ramen, you can pick the saltiness and oil level. If you just want a lighter ramen experience, go mild for either saltiness or oil; if you are properly into ramen, medium should do it. I went for medium this time~~

Of course, if the seasoning is not right after you order, you can ask a staff member to adjust it, so keep that in mind!

And the ajitama egg is not included by default, so I ordered one separately!

Aprons, hair ties, and toothpicks are available at the back of the restaurant. Definitely grab an apron..!

Here is the country-of-origin chart! Maybe because it is such a Bucheon ramen favorite, all of the soup-stock bases are domestic 😎👍

I sat at the counter, where pepper, chili powder, and kelp vinegar are set out in front of you. Add them to the ramen as you like while eating.

There is a self-service bar beside the kiosk, where you can help yourself to steamed rice, danmuji (pickled radish), and seasonings. They are also running a receipt-review event. You can get dumplings or drinks through it, so keep that in mind!

How to Enjoy Iekei Ramen
There is also a guide at the table on how to enjoy the ramen. It recommends fully enjoying the ramen's own flavor with the first bite before adding seasonings. I am planning to follow the recommendation today too~

It has an open kitchen, so if you sit at the counter you can sneak a look at the cooking. The interior was neatly kept as well.

Kara Iekei Ramen and Extras
Kara Iekei Ramen — ₩10,500 The Kara Iekei Ramen looked seriously intense! I had heard ramen fanatics who really know their ramen love this style of Iekei ramen, so this was my first time trying it. Compared with regular tonkotsu ramen, it definitely looked much more full-on.
The broth is insanely rich.
I ordered medium, so it may taste salty to an average palate, but it has that dangerously addictive flavor that comes back to mind after you finish! So addictive.

Wrapping the ramen in the nori (dried seaweed) served with it was absolutely delicious. It was thick Japanese-style nori, perfect for wrapping around the noodles.

The chashu was incredibly thin and tender, and its flavor made this Kara Iekei Ramen even more intensely punchy.

The menma (seasoned bamboo shoots) that came as a basic topping was a perfect match for this ramen. That crisp, crunchy texture was so appealing~

Ajitama egg — ₩1,500 I love eggs, so I added one separately. The soft-boiled egg with that salty, spicy broth was such a nice combination, so definitely add it if you love eggs!
Fried king dumplings — ₩3,500 I ordered this side because the meal felt a little incomplete without it! After eating this too, I was seriously stuffed~ Still, the dumplings were crispy outside and moist inside, making them great alongside the ramen. Both the ramen and dumplings made me desperately want a beer.

The dumplings came out while I was eating, so I took another photo. Even seeing it again, that broth looks intimidatingly intense.

Partway through, I sprinkled on some pepper too. It felt like it cut through the richness a little~
My review after trying Iekei ramen, an essential menu item for ramen fanatics, at Gyeoretsu Ramen Bucheon University Branch, a Bucheon ramen favorite.
