Mild shrimp+chicken gangjeong, large, tastier the next day: Mannyeon

Today's everyday find is a late-night/snack favorite — a takeout review of Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's Hanok Village branch 😄 Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is a chain I keep going back to because its sauce is different and more delicious than other dakgangjeong (sweet-spicy fried chicken bites) shops, so while I was in Jeonju Hanok Village I made sure to pack some home for a late-night snack!

Where in Hanok Village is it?

On a relaxed weekday afternoon, once the air had turned cool, I wandered around Hanok Village and looked for something to bring home as a late-night snack on my way back — that's how I ended up at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Direct Store. Walk about 5 minutes from Jeondong Cathedral on the main street of Jeonju Hanok Village toward Omokdae, and you'll spot Mannyeon Dakgangjeong right across from Ojjang!

I always thought Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's sauce tasted more distinctive and delicious than other places, and it turns out that's because they use fresh fruit sauce 👍 As you get close to the store, the sweet, savory smell of dakgangjeong seasoning wafts through the air!

Fresh-out-of-the-fryer hot dakgangjeong has its own charm, but somehow the leftovers taste even better the next day, haha…

Menu and order — mild shrimp+chicken gangjeong, large

The signature menu at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Direct Store is dakgangjeong and shrimp gangjeong!! You can choose from four flavors — mild, spicy, soy sauce, or plain fried — but for dakgangjeong, the seasoned version is the classic choice, right? I also wanted to try the shrimp gangjeong, so I ordered the shrimp+chicken gangjeong in mild flavor, large size (leftovers are for tomorrow anyway, so large is the only option!!!!)

For sides there's sotteok-sotteok, sweet potato cheese sticks, jjondeugi fritters, and cheese balls packed full inside,, and if you take part in the in-store review event you get a free sotteok-sotteok 👍

They packed it neatly into a box right away, so it was easy to carry home.

Got home and realized I forgot to add radish,,,😭 But opening the still-warm box, first impression: fully satisfied!! Plenty of sauce coated on everything, and a generous portion too.

How was the shrimp gangjeong?

First up, the shrimp gangjeong!! Not the kind with thick batter and a thin shrimp hiding inside — these are plump whole shrimp, giving a crisp-outside, springy-inside texture that's excellent. It's the mild flavor, but instead of pure sweetness there's a hint of spice mixed in, so it feels like a healthier kind of sweet!! The special sauce clings tightly to the surface of the fried shrimp, so the more you chew, the more the savory, sweet-spicy flavor fills your mouth 👍

If the shrimp gangjeong is this good, need I even mention the dakgangjeong,, Soft, juicy boneless chicken combined with crispy batter and seasoning — I doubt anyone could call that combo unappetizing!

The large size is a lot for two — and even better the next day

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's large size is a lot of food for two people, so I ended up eating it the next day too,, and somehow it tasted even better — why is that 😑 A bonus tip for enjoying dakgangjeong even more: everyone knows it goes great with a cold beer, right? If you're visiting Jeonju Hanok Village and wondering what to pack for a late-night snack, or you want to try dakgangjeong and shrimp gangjeong at once, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's shrimp+chicken gangjeong will be the perfect choice!
