The gopchang jeongol (beef offal hot pot) of my life, discovered on a solo trip to Gyeongju 🌾 I was drawn in by the peaceful atmosphere of Dongyang Baekban (동양백반), Hwangridan-gil Main Branch!

The moment I saw that Korean beef gopchang jeongol, I gasped… It was seriously loaded with beef, gopchang, and glass noodles!!! One sip of the broth and it tasted like a few bottles of soju would disappear just like that 🍲🔥🍶 I polished off every bit of rice, then finished with refreshing, sweet Dongyang sikhye (sweet rice drink)—absolutely perfect 🤍 The atmosphere is so neat and lovely that I wholeheartedly recommend it for a solo trip or a date!

I had taken off alone for a quick trip to Gyeongju. After wandering through the little lanes in the autumn breeze, I was hungry before I knew it. Since this trip was all about perfect healing, I searched for a restaurant where I could fully soak up Gyeongju’s signature serene mood. Then I found Dongyang Baekban Hwangridan-gil Main Branch—a name that already felt so Gyeongju—and went straight in. To give away the ending: I found it so right. Major success 💖

Even at 7 p.m. on a weekday, more than half of the room next to mine and the separate-building dining hall were full, with couples and family travelers happily eating away.

Hanok charm and an open dining space

Search for great Korean food in Gyeongju and an overwhelming number of posts come up, but places that capture both a hanok’s quiet charm and a clean modern feel are surprisingly hard to find. This place had such a distinctly Korean mood right from the entrance that I was bursting with excitement before I even stepped in, despite visiting alone. It is spacious and open inside too, making it ideal for a relaxed meal without feeling cramped at all.

I sat down, read the menu closely, and after some deliberation ordered Korean beef gopchang jeongol, a bowl of rice, and Dongyang sikhye to finish everything cleanly 📌 I wondered whether ordering a hot pot alone might be a little heavy, but for a truly delicious full spread, I went for it without hesitation—

A little later, the Korean beef gopchang jeongol arrived. The second I saw it, I screamed internally.

The portion was genuinely generous, and above all, it was packed with ingredients!!! Tender beef, gopchang full of rich filling, and glass noodles soaked through with seasoning—it was abundance itself. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

The instant I spooned up the broth, a satisfied “ahh” slipped out. It was spicy yet deeply flavorful, a real rich broth—and the kind of taste that would make a few bottles of soju go down effortlessly..🍶

🍚 A heaping bowl of rice mixed with seaweed flakes and sesame oil. Such generous portions,,😊 👍🏻 It was the ultimate rice thief, so I finished a whole bowl in no time.

Honestly, when you visit Korean restaurants around Hwangridan-gil, some places can look polished on the outside but leave something to be desired once you eat. But Dongyang Baekban had fresh seasonal ingredients and deep flavor, and I could tell it presented traditional Korean food in such a sophisticated way. Every side dish was neatly prepared, so I immediately understood why it is so popular.

After demolishing that abundant hot pot, I finished with sweet, chilled Dongyang sikhye and my mouth felt completely refreshed. A Gyeongju dinner that was wonderful from beginning to end 🍽️

For Hwangridan-gil dates and family meals

It was a solo trip, but this is too good to keep to myself. The atmosphere is so tidy and pretty that it would make a perfectly lovely Hwangridan-gil date spot for couples, and I think friends or family would all be happy here too.

It is right in the middle of Hwangridan-gil, so access could not be better, and the route works wonderfully for looking around the area after eating. If you want a filling meal in a peaceful setting, I totally recommend Dongyang Baekban Hwangridan-gil Main Branch—it is also ideal for a Hwangridan-gil restaurant date‼️ That combination of generous Korean beef gopchang jeongol and refreshing sikhye was hands-down the best of my Gyeongju Korean food tour,,😘
