I ate donkatsu (Japanese-style pork cutlets) with my children at Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch (용산돈까스온정경양식당 용산점), near Hyochang Park Station. We chose the Onjeong Curry Donkatsu and old-style Korean donkatsu, and the size and portion of the cutlets stood out first.

How was the portion and flavor of the Onjeong Curry Donkatsu?

The Onjeong Curry Donkatsu came with curry sauce over domestic pork loin cutlets. There were two cutlets, each large enough that the plate felt generous.

The portion looked substantial, the coating was crisp, and the pork inside was moist. The rich curry sauce went well with the cutlets.

What did the old-style Korean donkatsu sauce taste like?

The old-style Korean donkatsu is a handmade cutlet made with Dodram Korean pork. It reminded me of the old-style donkatsu I ate with my parents on special occasions as a child. The house sauce had a flavor that also felt a little like rosé sauce to me, making it somewhat different from the donkatsu sauces I usually eat.

It was crisp outside and moist inside. My children ate it well and said they wanted to come again.

What came with the donkatsu?

The mushroom soup served with it had a strong mushroom aroma and a thick texture, which suited my taste.

The broth was also good to have alongside the meal. I had it when the donkatsu started to feel rich or dry.

The salad was topped with lime and came with a sweet-and-tangy dressing.

Morning rolls and jam also came with the meal, which were easy for my children to eat after their meal.

For this meal, the price felt reasonable for the generous portion. After eating the large cutlets and all the accompanying dishes, it was a filling meal.
