Yongsan pork cutlet restaurant for spicy sauce: Onjeong
In short
Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is a pork cutlet restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul. I visited just after the break time and enjoyed buckwheat soba with Western-style pork cutlet, plus Onjeong’s spicy cutlet; the thick, rich mushroom soup was especially memorable. Verdict: a good choice for a generously portioned Western-style pork cutlet meal.

A relaxed Yongsan pork cutlet visit just after break time
I had a meeting in Yongsan and stopped by this well-known Yongsan pork cutlet spot for an early dinner. Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch (용산돈까스온정경양식당 용산점), was started with the dream of creating a space where the warmth of “onjeong” stays, just as its name suggests. The young owner also made such a lovely impression.

Hours, parking, and seating information

I arrived after break time ended but before the dinner rush, so I could eat at a relaxed pace. You all know that little tip for having a quiet meal by visiting at an in-between hour, right? Of course, the restaurant was bustling with delivery orders. The dining room was calm, but apparently delivery was having its busy hour! Even so, the owner and staff were kind amid all the rush.

A wide range of pork cutlets and self-service extras
As a pork cutlet specialist, it has plenty of cutlet choices: Western-style pork cutlet, Onjeong spicy pork cutlet, cheddar cheese pork cutlet, and Onjeong curry pork cutlet. There are also pork cutlet with udon, buckwheat soba with pork cutlet, tofu pouch fish-cake udon, and green citrus cold soba. Both individual dishes and sets felt like good value.
As soon as you enter, you can easily order at the kiosk on the left. Water, extra side dishes, and rice are self-service. You can also receive a complimentary drink for posting a photo review, so don’t miss it. The restaurant was kept very clean, and the tables were clean without any stickiness, making it comfortable to dine in.
While I waited for the food, customers kept coming in. There were people eating alone, mothers with children, fathers and sons, and couples too. Pork cutlets are one of those things everyone likes, regardless of age or gender, aren’t they? I think it is food you can enjoy without much room for differing tastes.

Buckwheat soba with Western-style pork cutlet and spicy cutlet
The two dishes I ordered—buckwheat soba with Western-style pork cutlet and Onjeong spicy pork cutlet—came out quickly. Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang fries everything to order, and perhaps because their hands move so quickly, it arrives fast.

There are lots of Japanese-style tonkatsu places these days, but today I was craving old-school Western-style pork cutlet served with soup. A crisp, freshly fried cutlet with sauce generously poured over it—that’s Western-style pork cutlet, and it comes with bread too.
There is also Onjeong spicy pork cutlet for adults who love spicy food, so it seems nice to order according to your taste. I’m not very good with heat, but my partner, who eats spicy food well, really enjoyed it. I tried a little too, and it was not fiercely hot—just deliciously spicy. When ordered à la carte, it comes with two cutlets.

Rich soup with big pieces of mushroom
I ordered the regular Western-style pork cutlet with buckwheat soba. When you order it as a set, you get one cutlet. The soup also had big pieces of mushroom in it, so I could tell it was a handmade soup made with plenty of care. The soup was rich and delicious!
The combination of buckwheat soba and a half portion of pork cutlet was just right for me. The buckwheat soba broth was refreshing and cool, and the slice of green citrus on top already made it look delicious. Noodles or buckwheat soba in set menus tend to be on the small side, but this place, known for its Hyochang Park pork cutlets, gave a generous portion too.

They say they use Korean pork and clean oil
After visiting this time, I could see why people seek this place out for Hyochang Park pork cutlets. They say they carefully select ingredients, use Korean pork, make everything by hand and fry it to order, and keep the oil clean. Maybe that is why the cutlets came out so clean-tasting. The restaurant itself was also incredibly clean.
Everything I ordered was delicious, but the soup in particular was wonderfully thick and proper, so I could feel that they put care into even the smallest thing. Young owner who makes and serves food with such care, please keep going for a long, long time!

A morning-roll pork cutlet burger and generous basic portions
They even gave us strawberry jam so we could make a pork cutlet burger with the morning rolls. And how could I not make one? I diligently piled in cabbage and pork cutlet to make it. I ate it with sips of buckwheat broth in between, and this is a place with unlimited rice and side-dish refills too.
Even before any refills, the standard portions were large, so I ate without ordering more. Do keep in mind that those with smaller appetites, like me, might leave some behind.

On the wall, they had explained why Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang is so popular for Hyochang Park pork cutlets. They highlighted thick meat trimmed the same day, oil managed fresh every day, and the clean flavor from their continuous fryer. With that kind of care, they say it is a huge hit with children too~ I had another delicious meal today.
