Songpa Korean barbecue for beef intestines: Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang

In short

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Garak-dong, Songpa, Seoul, serving grilled beef intestines and makchang. We ate two rounds of gopchang and makchang with house-made kimchi and pickled minari-garlic sauce. Verdict: a satisfying stop for serious gopchang fans.

My husband's absolute favorite food is beef intestines~ There are lots of beef intestine places nearby, but Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang (진성한우곱창) is his number one! He looked tired after working lots of overtime last week, so we decided to eat whatever he wanted... and it was Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang again... He's always going on about Jinseong, haha. It hadn't been long since our last visit, but we headed back to Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang's Garak flagship, a great beef intestine spot in Garak-dong.

Between Garak Market and National Police Hospital stations

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang, a great beef intestine restaurant in Garak-dong, sits between Exit 4 of Garak Market Station and National Police Hospital Station. Both stations are fairly close, so it is easy to get here by public transit too.

Every time I passed by, the people waiting outside were absolutely packed in, but we came for an early weekend dinner and luckily walked right in with no wait 👍🏻

The interior was spacious and clean. They can push tables together, so quite a few groups seem to gather here too!

Gopchang and makchang: up to three servings per grill pan

Here is the Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang menu. We love gopchang so much that we tried to order three servings of gopchang and one serving of makchang, but they told us that one grill pan can hold a maximum of three servings! So for the first pan, we modestly ordered two servings of gopchang and one of makchang, then added two more servings of gopchang for the next pan—no secret there... It was so good that adding just one serving would have felt way too sad, you know?

Pickled minari-garlic sauce and kimchi you keep reaching for

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang serves a pickled minari (water celery) and garlic sauce, and it is honestly delicious with anything, so we always get refills. It goes beautifully with gopchang and is tasty with makchang too—we just kept reaching for it.

They also bring out house-made kimchi! There was scallion kimchi, radish kimchi, and gat kimchi made with mustard greens. As a kimchi-loving couple, we always refill the kimchi too. Eating it with gopchang cuts through the richness, which is so nice.

The soft steamed egg they give you as a service item was fantastic too.

Gopchang full of fatty filling and chewy makchang

Our gopchang and makchang arrived. The grill pan was completely full, so I was excited just looking at it.

They cooked everything for us, so we could eat comfortably. Look at that gopchang full of rich filling... the nuttiness was seriously unreal. There was no odor at all. Dipped in the pickled minari-garlic sauce, it was the best 👍🏻 Once you taste it, you understand why my gopchang-loving husband insists on this place alone.

Grilled gopchang with sauce

I like makchang grilled nice and crisp, and even cooked that way, it was not tough—just chewy, nutty, and delicious.

Along with the gopchang and makchang, grilling sides like chive kimchi, scallion kimchi, vegetables, potatoes, and rice cakes made everything even tastier. In particular, the vegetables grilled alongside the gopchang were surprisingly delicious, haha.

We finished a second pan and saved the fried rice for next time

We smashed through the second pan with gopchang. Since they grilled a fresh batch, we got fresh vegetables and such too, so it felt like there was much more food, haha. We had planned to eat yangbap (fried tripe rice) as well, but we were too full to manage it. If you visit, I recommend the kkakdugi yangbap, made with cubed radish kimchi!

Even though it had not been long since our last meal here, my husband wanted it again, so we came back to Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang! If you are looking for beef intestines in Garak-dong, it is well worth a visit. We enjoyed everything from the gopchang to the makchang, and having kimchi and pickled minari-garlic sauce alongside them kept every bite delicious ◡ Next time, I have to properly make room for the kkakdugi yangbap too~
