Day drinking at a Gwangalli Korean BBQ open from 11am: Myeongseung

In short

Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi is a Jeju-style fresh pork BBQ restaurant in Suyeong, Busan, a short walk from Gwangan Station. It opens at 11:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, so the writer and their partner had a daytime drink here — one serving of Jeju black pork belly, two of seasoned ribs, and soju mixed with Terra Zero beer — before finishing with Jeju raw pork kimchi stew packed with meat. Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi works just as well for a meal with parents as for a day-drinking date near Gwangalli.

I went to 'Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi,' a well-known BBQ spot near Gwangan Station. It's open 17:00-22:00, opens at 11:00 on weekends, and is closed every Tuesday.

I was so happy after bringing my parents here last time that this time I came back with my partner for a bit of daytime drinking too! Here's my honest review of this authentic Jeju-style BBQ spot near Gwangan Station 🥩✨ The meat quality here is excellent, but what I really want to recommend is how they open in the daytime on weekends — perfect for enjoying delicious black pork with a drink (day drinking!) starting from the afternoon. Highly recommend it as a date course!

Side dishes and mixing soju with Terra Zero beer

After ordering, Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi sets the table with neat basic side dishes that pair well with the meat. The default spread includes onion soy sauce, soft soondubu (silken tofu), pickles, scallion strips, kimchi, white kimchi, and lettuce wraps.

As a special side, they serve a savory bracken and egg pancake on the house — perfect as a drinking snack while the meat is still cooking! For sauces, you get a special sauce made specifically for the seasoned ribs, plus myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), the classic partner for black pork.

Best of all, they have 'Terra Zero' beer here! You know Terra Zero is zero-calorie too, right? Haha. My partner and I hadn't done this in ages — we mixed soju-beer without any guilt and cruised through a refreshing daytime drink 🍻 (the one who avoids beer because it's fattening... so then what about soju...;)

How do the Jeju black pork belly and seasoned ribs taste?

At Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi, we ordered one serving of Jeju black pork belly and two servings of seasoned ribs.

Cross-section of perfectly grilled Jeju black pork belly

The tiny bristle marks visible on the cross-section prove it's real steamed black pork! The chewier you go, the more the skin turns springy and the fat pure savoriness. Dipping it into the saltily-boiled myeoljeot is deeply satisfying, and wrapped in fresh lettuce it's an explosion of umami.

Dipped in the special sauce that comes with it, the seasoning isn't overly salty or sweet — just the right balance of sweet and savory, with really tender meat. Wrapped with white kimchi or scallion strips, it's the kind of flavor you can't stop eating!

Finishing with Jeju fresh pork kimchi stew

After happily enjoying a few drinks, we finished with Jeju raw pork kimchi stew (₩5,000) and an extra bowl of rice.

Broth and thick chunks of meat in the kimchi stew

The stew was packed with thick chunks of raw pork, giving the broth an exceptional depth. Mixing the broth and meat with the clean side dishes over rice made for the perfect finishing meal after day drinking 😋

Verdict: good with parents, good for a day-drinking date

  • Perfect whether you're bringing your parents or on a day-drinking date with your partner
  • A great combination of high-quality Jeju black pork belly and tender seasoned ribs
  • A well-rounded Gwangalli spot with a receipt review event that gives you a free bottle of alcohol

If you want delicious black pork with a soju-beer near Gwangalli, be sure to visit 'Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi,' a place with 30 years of experience behind it!
