Fish cake stew and soju set at Buheongsanjang, a Suyeong Busan bar
In short
Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch is a mountain-lodge-style bar and eatery on Muhak-ro 21beon-gil in Suyeong-gu, Busan, spread over two floors. On a Monday evening, two people ordered the assorted odeng-tang (fish cake stew) for 21,000 won and the Boksosa set for 20,000 won and spent about 40,000 won in total, with the stew made from Samjin Fishcake kept hot on a tabletop burner. Buheongsanjang was full of local regulars, and one pot of odeng-tang was enough to carry a whole night of drinks.

Today I went to Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch (부엉이산장 부산수영점), located in Gwangalli, Busan!

Even visiting on a Monday evening, the place was packed!! Suyeong hotspots really are different..!

First and second floor seating and lodge atmosphere
The 1st floor seating at Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch has a wide open hall plus 3 more tables in a doorless room! I knew this was a good spot the moment I walked in. Why? Because on a Monday evening, everyone there looked like local regulars enjoying a drink!!

Here's the 2nd floor! Doesn't it really feel like a mountain lodge?? I bet if you come in winter it'd have such a warm, cozy vibe haha

The free bar snack: shrimp chips
The complimentary side dish is egg shrimp chips!! Salty and savory, the kind of flavor you end up eating endlessly ㅠㅠㅠ The pickled onion seems to come with whatever main dish you order! By the way, are you wondering what that big bowl is??

How to drink the Boksosa set (20,000 won)
Yep ^^,, I ordered the Boksosa set!! ₩20,000!! They said if you mix it straight over ice it melts and gets watered down.. so they told us to mix it in the big bowl first, then scoop ice into the glass as you drink!! Such thoughtful service... And since I remembered enjoying bokmaek (bokbunja + beer) before, I mixed myself a glass of that too haha

Making Boksosa is super simple! Just mix everything Buheongsanjang gives you!! Add bokbunja (black raspberry liqueur), add cider, add soju, done! Isn't the glass so pretty too??
Assorted odeng-tang, 21,000 won: broth made with Samjin Fishcake
The assorted odeng-tang is ₩21,000.

After all that talk about drinks, here comes the odeng-tang! Isn't the portion really generous?!? They keep it on a burner so you can eat it warm the whole time. They said you can dig in right when it arrives haha. This is odeng-tang made with Samjin Fishcake, you know?! In Busan, odeng means Samjin Fishcake~~

Just look at this plump texture.. There are only two fish cake brands I eat. Samjin Fishcake and x-rae! Other bars use cheaper cuts to save money, but this place uses Samjin Fishcake!!! It really tastes different. + Nothing beats odeng-tang as a soju side dish.

Was about 40,000 won for two good value?
My friend loved it too and ate a ton. The Boksosa was sweet-bitter, which paired so well with the sweetish, refreshing odeng-tang. All together it came out to about ₩40,000..!! Isn't that pretty reasonable ㅠㅠㅠㅠ (assorted odeng-tang + cider + soju + bokbunja)

My friend likes fish cake well-cooked, so she pulled it off the skewer and soaked it in the broth!

Oh!! This is something my friend discovered too — she said topping the complimentary egg shrimp chips with pickled onion is delicious ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ At first I thought 'why would you eat it like that..?' but I tried it and it's actually good.

Extra ice and where the restrooms are
One more good thing about Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch — ice refills are free!! So you can make as many jjabaegi as you want! (Jjabaegi means pouring soju straight over a glass of ice~)

Leaving this info here: the 1st floor restroom is for women and the 2nd floor restroom is for men...
Is Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong worth a visit?
Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch was packed even on a Monday evening! The atmosphere had a cozy mountain-lodge feel, and the varied menu made it a great spot for a group to share several dishes. Especially with a generous bowl of assorted odeng-tang alongside drinks, it was the perfect setting for a good long chat :) If you're looking for a good bar in Suyeong-gu or a place with plenty of tasty side dishes, Buheongsanjang seems worth a visit haha
