Cheonan Korean restaurant for chicken stew: Sottture Dakdoritang
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a Korean restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, serving dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) and side dishes. On a Saturday evening, we ordered a whole chicken stew, potato pancakes, and old-fashioned pork cutlet, then mixed rice into the rich, lightly spicy broth. Verdict: a great pick when you are craving a generously filled chicken stew with lots of rice cakes.

Last weekend, we went out for a delicious dinner! It is Sottture Dakdoritang, perfect for lunch, dinner, or even as a drinking snack! 🐔

Sottture Dakdoritang Visitor Information
It is on the first floor at 31 Seobu 19-gil, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. It is open daily from 11:00 to 23:00, with a break from 15:00 to 16:00 and last orders at 22:00. You can park behind the building, and there are high chairs, aprons, and Wi-Fi, too.

The Sottture Dakdoritang parking lot is behind the building. We visited a little after the dinner rush, so there were only about two cars parked there :)
A Spacious Dining Room and Baby-Friendly Amenities
Inside the Restaurant

Sottture Dakdoritang is fairly spacious inside, with lots of tables. There are round tables and rectangular tables—about 10 in all. It looked good for lunch, dinner, or even a late-night meal.

We visited around 7 p.m. on a Saturday, and lots of people were having it as both a drinking snack and dinner!! Maybe that is why the refrigerator was packed full of drinks... 🪽

Anyway, disposable aprons are ready for you, and there are high chairs for anyone visiting with a baby!

How to Enjoy Dakdoritang
There are even tips on how to enjoy Sottture Dakdoritang!
- Boil it vigorously over high heat for about 2–3 minutes!
- Turn down to low heat and start with the rice cakes! Eat in the order of rice cakes and vegetables, wings, breast meat, then drumsticks; it is even tastier if you let it reduce over low heat!
- Pull the chicken meat off the bone and dip it in the broth with flat dumplings!
- Add fried rice and ramen noodles to the reduced broth!

Here are the self-service station and the included side dishes. The side dishes were so tasty and went really well with the dakdoritang, so make sure to try them together!

Ordering Whole Chicken Stew, Potato Pancakes, and Pork Cutlet
Here is the Sottture Dakdoritang menu! The signature dishes are the whole chicken for 2–3 people and one and a half chickens for 3–4 people, at ₩35,000 and ₩45,000 respectively! There are also extras such as flat dumplings, potato pancakes, and pork cutlet.
This is what we ordered: whole chicken for 2–3 people ₩35,000, potato pancakes ₩6,000, old-fashioned pork cutlet ₩10,000, two bowls of rice ₩2,000, and cola ₩2,500.

Our dakdoritang and potato pancakes arrived! Ahh... the second I saw that dakdoritang broth, I thought, oh, this place is the real deal... ✨ I wanted to get it boiling and eat it right awayㅠㅠ!!!

There is also this cute quail-egg chicken decoration 🐔🐔 While the dakdoritang boils a little more, let us try the potato pancakes.

You get two potato pancakes! They were exactly that crispy-outside, soft-inside goodness—the kids said they were delicious and ate them well, too! My husband loves potato pancakes, and he really enjoyed these ones 🤧

We ordered the pork cutlet for the kids!! Before ordering, I meant to ask for the sauce on the side, but forgot... If you are ordering pork cutlet for a child and want the sauce separately, be sure to say so before ordering! Here, it comes sauce-poured-over... 🤧
Anyway, even with the sauce poured over it, the pork cutlet itself was crispy and tasty, and it went well with the sauce. The kids usually do not eat pork cutlet with sauce much, but they ate this one well!! They had a good mix of potato pancakes, pork cutlet, and rice 👍🏻

Dakdoritang That Gets Richer as the Broth Reduces
The dakdoritang started bubbling away—once it is cooked a bit and the broth has reduced slightly, you can eat it. There were quite a lot of rice cakes and plenty of chicken, too!
The broth was exactly how I like it: a little punchy and deeply rich. Let it reduce a bit more and it becomes the flavor I absolutely love 🤧 It was also so good to spoon a little broth over white rice and mix it in!!

I thought it was a huge amount, but the two of us ended up finishing it all, haha. We did share one bowl of rice, though, and we were so full that it was a little disappointing not to make the self-service fried rice.. Next time, I have to come back and properly have the self-service fried rice and ramen noodles, too!! 🤧💗
I really, really recommend Sottture Dakdoritang for either lunch or dinner!!
