Fire jokbal and bossam combo set in Yeongdeungpo: Gwihan Jokbal

In short

Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo is a jokbal (braised pig's trotters) and bossam (boiled pork wraps) restaurant 240 meters from Exit 5 of Yeongdeungpo Station, right next to Times Square in Seoul. On a Sunday visit at 5pm the Bobul Bobul Set (49,000 won) arrived with bossam and spicy grilled fire jokbal side by side, all boneless meat — labeled a set for two but enough for three with leftovers. Bean sprout soup and Korean-grown kimchi come with free refills, so at Gwihan Jokbal the basic sides alone keep the drinks flowing.

A Yeongdeungpo Times Square favorite and a great pick for group dinners — Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo.

How to find Gwihan Jokbal: 240m from Yeongdeungpo Station Exit 5, next to Times Square

Today I visited Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo, a Yeongdeungpo Times Square favorite. It's located just 240 meters from Exit 5 of Yeongdeungpo Station.

I went a bit late to catch Odyssey at Yeongdeungpo Times Square and ended up visiting on a Sunday at the early evening hour of 5pm. (Odyssey is so much fun! Everyone should go watch it!) Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo is a great jokbal spot to hit after a movie in Yeongdeungpo! It's also super close to Times Square and Shinsegae Department Store!

Private rooms and group seating for wedding-invitation dinners

Spacious interior seating suitable for group visits

The interior felt surprisingly spacious, so it looked great for group visits! There's also room seating, making it a good spot for wedding-invitation gatherings. They even give you a wine coupon if you make a Naver reservation for that haha. They seem to run a lot of generous events, so it's worth booking ahead.

What's on the menu at Gwihan Jokbal Yeongdeungpo

The set menus that let you enjoy jokbal and bossam affordably in varied combinations are the best pick here. There are also plenty of side menu options, so ordering a few together works great for groups. I liked that there are also drinking snacks suited for a second or third round. And with budget-friendly lunch set menus packed with protein, the office workers around here must love it! I used to buy bossam lunchboxes a lot as a student — sudden nostalgia. Everything reportedly uses domestic Korean pork boiled the same day, so it's a place you can trust.

Side dishes and free-refill bean sprout soup

A spread of side dishes including bean sprout soup and kimchi

I went with the good-value set menu. The side dishes came out right away, neat and tidy! They included bean sprout soup, domestic kimchi, chives, garlic, and lettuce wraps. I liked that the sauces — salted shrimp and ssamjang — came out individually per person. It can feel messy sharing them, you know haha. And soju-beer can't be missing when eating jokbal! I ordered right away. The soju and beer here were super cold too haha, man, even on a Sunday I couldn't give up drinking.

Free-refill bean sprout soup and domestic kimchi

This cold bean sprout soup and domestic kimchi are free refills +_+ The bean sprout soup is a perfect drinking snack too, so refilling is a must!! It's so nice when the basic side dishes are done this well.

Bobul Bobul Set, 49,000 won: bossam plus spicy grilled fire jokbal

Bobul Bobul Set with bossam and spicy grilled fire jokbal

The Bobul Bobul Set I ordered comes with bossam and spicy grilled fire jokbal. I couldn't give up either bossam or jokbal, so I ordered the combo set haha. Plus, eating just bossam or just jokbal gets tiring after a while, so having the fire jokbal alongside balances things out nicely.

A plate of jokbal packed with boneless meat

Even though it's labeled a set for two, is this portion really right? I'm not sure if the other sets are the same, but the jokbal came out entirely boneless, packed with meat! Meat on the bone is tasty too, but it's a bit inconvenient to eat outside, right? They gave us so much boneless meat that even three people could eat it without any shortage.

Spicy grilled fire jokbal topped with garlic flakes

The fire jokbal had garlic flakes on top. I wondered what these flakes were, but they went surprisingly well with the fire jokbal! It felt a bit like the flakes on dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken)!

Jorangi tteok rice cake mixed into the fire jokbal

I love tteok (rice cakes) so much that I'm instantly touched whenever there's tteok mixed in — and there's jorangi tteok (twisted snowman-shaped rice cake) in here too! I feel like I ate a lot of this as a kid! It's been a while since I've had jorangi tteok haha.

The fire jokbal was mostly skin-heavy, but it wasn't greasy at all — chewy and seriously delicious, whoa. Personally I love jokbal with lots of skin haha. The fire jokbal was so good that I hope you all order the Bobul Set too.

Lettuce wrap topped with jokbal and radish kimchi

How to wrap the pork, plus opening hours

Jokbal and bossam taste best wrapped in lettuce! The lettuce was really fresh, so I made wraps right away. And the radish kimchi was seriously delicious — domestic kimchi really is the best, whoa. I got so into wrapping and eating that I felt like I was going to burst.
