Today I visited Sallering Daehak-ro, famous as a Hyehwa salad restaurant and a great spot for solo dining in Jongno!

Where is Sallering Daehak-ro, and what are its hours?
Sallering Daehak-ro is about a 3–5 minute walk from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station. It's open daily 11:00 - 20:00, with takeout, delivery, and group dining all available.

Inside Sallering Daehak-ro: seating for eating alone in Jongno
I was surprised at how many people were inside when I walked into Sallering Daehak-ro haha... being near a university area, there were tons of students and lots of people eating alone too, with dine-in, takeout, and delivery all running busily at once, so if you're planning to eat in, I'd check for a seat first!

There are square tables set up in the center and along the walls, and the front of the store has a wide window that makes it feel open, while further back along the walkway, beyond an arched partition, there are more tables tucked away for a private, cozy meal — great for coming alone and eating quietly.

Over 500 bowl combinations at this Seoul salad restaurant
Sallering has 11 signature dressings carefully developed to suit Korean tastes, 12 colorful main toppings ranging from chicken breast to flat iron steak to fresh salmon, and 4 bases you pick to your liking (brown rice, buckwheat noodles, egg strips, vegetables, and more) — mix and match these and apparently you can create over 500 different menu combinations.

How to order at the kiosk and check calories
You order at the kiosk, and if you're curious about calories, there's a monitor above the counter with everything carefully listed — and the calories shown are based on the brown rice base, so it's lower if you go with an all-vegetable base!

Plain bibim poke with a 100% vegetable base: how it tasted
I ordered the plain bibim poke with a 100% vegetable base. It's made with European green mix vegetables — the leaves were very soft while the stems still had a good bite, and with every chew you could feel clear moisture; the vegetables were fresh with no browning or spoiled bits, which I loved.

Mixed in among the soft vegetables were mushrooms, garlic flakes, egg strips, crab stick, pickles, and other varied ingredients that gave great texture, and on top of that, finely chopped tangy red cabbage and juicy, popping sweet corn were added, making the flavor balance absolutely amazing.

If you're looking for a Hyehwa sandwich spot or a Jongno salad restaurant, I fully recommend Sallering Daehak-ro.
