Hyehwa weekend family lunch with crunchy corn fritters: Omil Daehangno
In short
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is an omurice and pasta restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building on Daemyeong-gil, near Hyehwa Station Exit 4 in Jongno, Seoul. On a Sunday outing in Daehangno with elementary-age kids, the writer ordered rubber-duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta, crunchy corn fritters and pineapple ade. The mix worked well as a family-friendly spot before or after a show.

On a Sunday, I took the kids out for an outing in Daehangno.
Whenever we head to Daehangno with the kids to catch a show or just wander around, there's always one thing I stress over — where to eat! There are tons of restaurants in Daehangno, but when I actually look for somewhere the kids can enjoy too, it's surprisingly hard to pin down. This time, I found just the right place~
Location and basic info for Omil Hyehwa Daehangno

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is on the 2nd floor of a building at 35 Daemyeong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It's about 163m from Hyehwa Station Exit 4, so it's really convenient to reach by public transit.

Business hours are 11:30–21:15, with a break time from 15:15 to 16:30, and last order at 20:30.
It's a great spot to visit after a Daehangno show, or you can meet at Hyehwa Station, eat first, then head to the theater — the flow works either way.

Hours run from 11:30 to 21:15! Break time is 15:15 to 16:30, and last order is at 20:30, so keep that in mind if you're planning an evening visit.

Apparently this is Omil's third location, and it fits the Hyehwa vibe really well. There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, you'll need to use a nearby paid parking lot.

Since this was a Daehangno outing with the kids, we took public transit, and being so close to Hyehwa Station made things much easier.
A kid-friendly Hyehwa restaurant with a varied menu

Looking through the menu, there was quite a variety — from omurice to pasta, gnocchi, steak and sides.

The hardest part of eating out with kids is choosing the menu, right? You need something the kids will like and something the adults can enjoy too, and Omil made that easy with plenty of options.

Signature menu and side prices
- Omil Steak ₩35,900
- Sizzling Cheese Cutlet ₩19,900
- Gochujang Butter Pasta ₩17,900
- Rubber Duck Omurice ₩16,900
- Salmon Steak Gnocchi ₩18,900
- Bacon Cream Pasta ₩17,900, and more
- Sides — Omil Soba Yaki ₩12,900, Crunchy Corn Fritters ₩11,900, Truffle Fries ₩9,900

There's also a self-service corner in the restaurant. Water and pickles are self-serve, so you can help yourself to as much as you need.

What our family ordered that day was rubber-duck omurice, gochujang butter pasta, crunchy corn fritters, and pineapple ade.
We picked these with the kids, and it turned out to be a great combo — every single dish was fun to eat.
Rubber-duck omurice the kids fell for
The dish the kids reacted to first the moment it arrived was the rubber-duck omurice!

This one's a hit with kids from the visuals alone. There are cute little ducks lined up on top of the omurice (rice omelet), and we ended up just staring at it for a while before eating.

Seeing the kids get so excited the moment they saw it, saying how cute it was, made me feel unreasonably proud.

It felt less like an ordinary meal and more like encountering a dish with a story to it.

This is actually the biggest reason I'd recommend Omil as a kid-friendly restaurant in Daehangno. Taste matters to kids, sure, but so does the fun of seeing how the food is presented.

In that sense, the rubber-duck omurice really stuck with us. A dish that's only pretty tends to be a one-time thing, but this one was also mild and soft in flavor, which made it quite good to eat with the kids.
It wasn't a strong or intense flavor at all, so I felt even very young kids could eat it without any trouble. It's soft egg over mild rice with sauce, so the kids ate it up, and the cute visuals naturally had us taking photo after photo.
Gochujang butter pasta even the elementary schoolers loved
The dish I was personally most curious about was the gochujang butter pasta. Gochujang (Korean chili paste) and butter — that's a slightly unusual combo, right?

At first I worried it might be too spicy for the kids since it had gochujang in it. But once we tried it, it wasn't as spicy as expected, and even our elementary schoolers (upper grades) ate it happily.

Everyone's spice tolerance is different, of course, but by our kids' standards it wasn't overwhelming at all. The savory depth of gochujang gently combined with the rich, nutty taste of butter for a completely different feel from typical pasta.

I liked that it wasn't just straight-up spicy. The distinctive gochujang flavor blended well with the butter's smoothness, so I kept reaching for more.

It was so good that I said it was for the kids but ended up eating more of it myself. If you're getting a little tired of cream pasta or tomato pasta, this is worth trying with your kids.
Pineapple ade with real fruit chunks

For drinks, we tried the pineapple ade with the kids, and it was much tastier than I expected — a real standout. Ade usually leans heavy on carbonation and syrup, but this one had actual pineapple flesh you could chew, which I loved.
One sip gives you the refreshing pineapple flavor along with bits of fruit, which cleans your palate nicely. Sipping it between bites of the gochujang butter pasta or the corn fritters worked really well. The kids loved it too and finished a whole glass in no time! ^^
Surprisingly addictive crunchy corn fritters

The crunchy corn fritters we picked as a side exceeded expectations too. We ordered it casually at first, thinking the kids would just enjoy it.
But as we ate, it turned out to be a flavor adults would love even more. The sweetness of the corn and the crunchy texture kept us reaching for more.

Crispy on the outside with that distinct nutty-sweet corn flavor, it's the perfect side. Eating it with the kids, I couldn't help thinking this would go so well with beer. Haha.

A cold beer with a corn fritter on the side sounds like a perfect match. If you want to order two mains plus one side, I'd recommend the corn fritters.
Why it made such a good pick for family dining in Daehangno
Visiting Omil Hyehwa Daehangno with the kids this time, what struck me was that nothing about the food felt boring. Even the omurice wasn't just an ordinary version of the dish.

What I liked most was how many dishes there were that both kids and adults could enjoy together.

If you're searching for a kid-friendly restaurant in Daehangno, or need a spot for family dining before or after a show, this one's worth keeping in mind.
