Pyeongtaek Korean restaurant lunch: banchan bar, puffed rice dessert

In short

Hwanggeum Seafood Nurungji-tang is a Korean restaurant specialising in seafood nurungji-tang (scorched rice soup) on Manse-ro in Bijeon-dong, Pyeongtaek, in the building next to Pajuok and Roro Samgyetang. On this third visit the 300-degree seafood nurungji-tang cost 18,000 won, garlic scapes and salted squid came from the self-serve side dish bar, and dessert was puffed rice crisps popped on the machine in the restaurant. With a large shared parking lot, partitioned tables and private rooms, Hwanggeum Seafood Nurungji-tang made an easy restorative family lunch.

A place you ate well at makes you want to go back again. My mom loves this place sooooo much!!! Haha. The meal that left me full and warm in my memory — let me introduce Hwanggeum Seafood Nurungji-tang, my go-to Manse-ro lunch spot ^^♡ I heard the owner also runs Kkomak Manse (a cockle restaurant) — seems really kind and hardworking!!!

Where is Hwanggeum Seafood Nurungji-tang, and is there parking?

This Bijeon-dong favorite is in the building next to Pajuok and Roro Samgyetang on Manse-ro. The parking lot is spacious too, so it never feels like a hassle to visit ^^♡ Even though it's shared with the restaurant next door, there's plenty of parking space — that's honestly one of this place's best perks.

Partitioned tables and private rooms for group meals

Comfortable temperature, newly opened and spotless~^^ You can see the Manse-ro street view through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the partitioned seating means conversations stay uninterrupted — private dining is totally possible ^^♡

If you want an even more private atmosphere, they have rooms ready too — great for group meetups or company dinners!!! There are several rooms available.

What's on the menu, and how much does it cost?

At this Bijeon-dong favorite, nurungji-tang (scorched rice soup) is the signature dish. I've eaten the basic 300-degree seafood nurungji-tang most often, but there's also a wild ginseng cultured root version.

  • 300-degree seafood nurungji-tang ₩18,000
  • Wild ginseng cultured root nurungji-tang ₩22,000
  • Side menu: black pork tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)

For a side, there's black pork tangsuyuk, which pairs really nicely with the soup.

Side dishes and the self-serve banchan bar

Once you finish ordering on the tablet, the side dishes get set up~ Salted squid, black sesame braised lotus root, garlic scapes, and kimchi come out.

The garlic scapes and salted squid are my top picks~~ The crunchy garlic scapes go so well with the nurungji-tang~~ If you run out of side dishes, you can grab more from the self-serve bar.

Right next to it is the mix coffee and brewed coffee station ^^ The owner seems like a real coffee enthusiast, haha~~

How do you eat the 300-degree seafood nurungji-tang?

While I was curbing my hunger with the side dishes, a staff member came to our table~ The food had arrived^_^ Time to share the warmth!!!

The piping hot stone pot has scorched rice in it, and once you pour in the thick starchy broth, the seafood nurungji-tang is complete~♡

It's hot, so scooping some out to cool is better for your throat and generally a good idea haha, but I'm actually pretty good with hot food!!!

Blew on it carefully and took a spoonful of the scorched rice!! It's really crispy and has a nutty, savory taste~ If you let it cook a bit longer, you get a totally different texture of scorched rice~~ I personally prefer it crispy, so I enjoy it while it's still crunchy haha. The meeting of fresh seafood and rich golden scorched rice is the best, so good!!!

Plump shrimp and pinecone-cut squid in the broth

This Manse-ro favorite's seafood nurungji-tang also has shrimp, and it's plump and really tasty~^

There's pinecone-cut squid too, and at first I wondered, what's this crunchy thing? It's not radish, and honestly I'm still not totally sure what it is, but it has this crunchy texture too~~!!

I really enjoy eating this combination~~ As you eat, your insides get warm and hearty, like an energizing boost of vitality~~~~

Dessert: puffed rice crisps made in-store

While I was busy eating haha, a staff member brought this over as dessert — puffed rice with a scorched-rice texture.

They actually have the puffing machine right there in the restaurant. It was pretty addictive~~ I want to eat it again haha.
