Hi neighbors 💛 It's Jane, the parenting blogger. Today I'm reviewing Widaehan Jogae Jeongol in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. I hope this helps anyone looking for a great kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) spot in Daejeon 😌

Where is Widaehan Jogae Jeongol? Yongun-dong, near Daejeon University

I visited Widaehan Jogae Jeongol in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon. It's near Daejeon University, so it's a great option when you're looking for somewhere to eat in that area.
Baby chairs on hand: easy dining with a little one

We visited with our baby, and the restaurant had a baby chair ready, which made the meal much easier. A place with a baby chair really puts my mind at ease when we're eating out with our little one.
When the owner came to our table to clean the clams, she said hello to the baby and even turned on a fan right next to us so we could eat comfortably and stay cool!
Where do you park at Widaehan Jogae Jeongol?
Parking is available on the street in front of the restaurant and in a lot behind the building, so driving there was no problem. We came on a Saturday afternoon and were lucky enough to grab a spot right out front.
Inside the restaurant: seating and atmosphere
Once we went inside, the space felt more spacious than I expected — comfortable for a family meal. The tables also had generous spacing, which made it feel welcoming for families visiting with kids.

True to being a clam hot pot specialist, the menu lineup showed off a hearty variety of seafood.

Besides the clam hot pot, there's also clam samhap, a beef special, and an octopus 'Widaehan' special, so you can pick according to your taste. It seems like a great spot for clam kalguksu at lunch and clam hot pot at dinner, so you can order differently depending on the time of day. Overall it had a comfortable, lively atmosphere, well suited to a family dinner or a meal with friends. If you love hearty seafood dishes, this is definitely worth a visit.
An affordable-price business selected by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety
Widaehan Jogae Jeongol is designated as an affordable-price business by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Walking in, I noticed a whole wall covered in certificates and awards.

Being designated an affordable-price business by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety made me trust the place even more. 👍 Apparently this designation considers not just reasonable pricing but also cleanliness and service quality.
There were even certificates signed by the mayor of Daejeon hanging alongside other awards, which gave the sense that this place has been loved in the community for a long time.

It's not just a cheap place — you can tell they pay attention to both portion sizes and service, which got me excited even before the food arrived.
Menu and side dishes: squid fritters and kimchi pancake

The menu is really extensive haha

The squid fritters and kimchi pancake (kimchijeon) that came as side dishes were so good haha. I'm normally the type who doesn't even touch the side dishes at a restaurant — I focus on the main dish and only nibble a little on the sides. But the squid fritters looked so good. So I took one bite and it was so delicious I finished it right away lol. I devoured the kimchi pancake too... When the side dishes are this good, it really raises your expectations for the main dish ♡ Here's what I ordered,

Clam hot pot for two at 45,000 won: what seafood comes in it
Clam hot pot for two, ₩45,000. Once we ordered, the pot came out packed full of seafood — visually really generous.

From razor clams to red mussels, white clams, surf clams, abalone, and squid — a huge variety of seafood filled the pot. Fish cake was mixed in too, adding a different kind of fun beyond just eating clams the whole time. With so many different types of clams, it was fun to pick through and try one after another. Above all, the seafood was fresh and cleanly prepped, so it was easy to eat.

The owner personally cleaned the abalone and squid for us, which made eating a lot easier.
The broth that came out of the clams was clean and refreshing, so I kept scooping it up over and over lol

The clam hot pot came with mozzarella cheese as well, so I put some on the octopus with a light dip of chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), and it tasted incredibly fancy > < It was a great way to enjoy seafood in a different way.

Even though it was just the two of us, we got to taste a wide variety of clams and seafood, which made for a satisfying meal. If you love clam hot pot, you'll especially appreciate being able to try so many kinds of seafood at once.
Kalguksu noodle add-on for 2,000 won: the broth stays clear

You've got to add the kalguksu noodles too~~~ I usually don't like it when the broth turns cloudy after adding noodles to something like shabu-shabu ㅠㅠ, but here they pre-boil the kalguksu noodles once, so the broth doesn't get cloudy — you just simmer them briefly and eat right away, which was so~ nice. Being able to enjoy clear, refreshing broth from start to finish was especially great haha

Final verdict: is Widaehan Jogae Jeongol good for a family meal?
It had been a while since I'd had clam hot pot, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much more generous the portions were than expected. From the moment the pot came out packed with seafood, it made my mouth water just looking at it.
What I liked most was being able to eat several kinds of clams at once. Each type had a slightly different texture and flavor, so it was fun to pick through them one by one. And above all, the broth was so refreshing — I loved taking a spoonful of it between bites of seafood. It was clean yet packed with umami from the clams, which kept me coming back for more.

With abalone and squid included too, it felt much more substantial than a hot pot with just clams. Adding the cheese brought a nutty, creamy flavor that surprisingly paired well with the clams. Having the staff clean the seafood for us made the whole meal effortless.
This seems like a great place to visit when you want a hearty family meal out. It'd also be a good spot to bring your parents or a bigger group to share a variety of seafood. If you're in the Dong-gu area of Daejeon and craving a refreshing, hearty clam hot pot, it's worth a visit. I had a great meal with the clam hot pot for two this time, but next time I'm curious to try other menu items too. Between the generous seafood and the refreshing broth, it was a truly satisfying meal.
