Matte brown color at a Gwangju hair salon: Eomaek Hair Project
In short
Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch is a hair salon in Gwangsan, Gwangju, with a café-like setting for color services. I dyed my post-pregnancy grown-out roots and orange-toned brown hair matte brown for a calm, soft fall color. A satisfying pick for muted brown that tones down orange warmth.

After giving birth, I went to Eomaek Hair Project for a mood change and a root touch-up! I agonized over what color to get, then thought, since it’s fall, let’s go for something muted~

My brown hair had a lot of orange warmth at the time, and I wanted a transformation—something along the lines of matte brown • muted brown!!

Getting to Eomaek Hair Project Cheomdan Branch and parking

My mother-in-law called the day before to say she’d watch the baby, so my husband and I headed over nice and leisurely, la-la-la. So many buildings are going up in Cheomdan these days, and Eomaek Hair is in the building across from Daerassu! It has dedicated parking, which was super convenient. There are parking spaces on the first floor and a mechanical parking tower too. Eomaek Hair is on the third floor! 💇🏻♀️
A café-like exterior and interior
Even before going in, it was such a pretty, tidy space that reminded me of a café. It was decorated with a natural feel too 🌿 and had large display windows so you could see inside.

Click, click—the interior was the first thing I photographed when I walked in 📸📸 It’s exactly the kind of clean interior I love!! It feels modern and very on-trend 🔨

I think bringing the café atmosphere to life is Eomaek Hair Project’s special point ✨ It feels so nice that they’ve created a space where clients getting their hair done feel happy, while companions can relax comfortably as they wait 💓 I came for my hair, but I almost wanted to sit down, have a coffee, chat, and stay awhile haha. Since I went right at opening, there were barely any people and it was pleasantly quiet~ It felt a little private, hehe.

This is what the haircut area looks like. The lighting really did its part in making the photos come out well!! They made every corner look so pretty, haha. But interior aside, getting my hair done comes first!!
From orange-toned brown to matte brown
This was the state of my hair to start with: a reddish brown with orange warmth, dry and rough-looking,, 🫠 I’d been growing it out before and after giving birth, so there were grown-out roots,, and it looked kind of patchy.

That’s why I chose Designer Suyeon! She’s great at perms too, but there were lots of color reviews, and she seemed so thorough, so she was my pick 👆

First, I worked with the designer to narrow down the color I wanted. Since it was fall, I wanted a muted? matte kind of brown, and the designer suggested a color that could neutralize the orange warmth.

The final pick was 9-20, which seemed like it would suit my hair color -> matte brown.

The current state of my hair.. a little dry with no shine ㅠ And my roots had grown out soooo much haha.

They carefully applied dye that was mint-chocolate? toothpaste-colored. They first applied it to the previously colored hair, leaving a little space from the grown-out roots. Applying this to tone down the orange warmth and bring in that mint tone creates a calm, moody color! 🩵 After finishing the first application, they told me to wait about 20 minutes haha. This photo practically radiates awkwardness ^^ It’s a step you have to go through to become pretty,,,

While I waited for the color to develop, they brought me a little snack too haha. Eomaek Hair is a café-like hair salon, and fittingly, they use coffee beans supplied by coffee shops ☕️ and an ice-only maker connected directly to the water line 🧊! These days, hair appointments take a long time, so it has become standard for salons to prepare coffee or tea because clients can get bored or tired 🥵 I think Eomaek Hair pays particular attention to making that time comfortable 💪🏻 After 20 minutes, they applied the dye to my roots for the second round, then I went to get my hair washed.

Oh my, even the shampoo area was moody and pretty!! 🥹🩷 The shampoo station is an automatic unit optimized to prevent neck pain, even when you’re lying down for a long time. It was so comfortable that I had to ask, hehe. Designer Suyeon gave me a refreshing shampoo, then finished with a blow-dry! I took some hair photos after styling!! The orange warmth was completely neutralized, and it became a muted brown 💇🏻♀️ So pretty.

Not just the color—the bouncy, shiny hair was complete too ✨ And look at that pretty angel ring of shine~~ My hair under warm white (yellowish) light!

My hair under daylight-white lighting 😌😌 I’m so satisfied with this pretty color!! I became a soft-looking, calm fall girl〰️💓〰️ If you want a gorgeous color with lots of fall feeling, I recommend checking out Eomaek Hair Project!!
