I went out to Amsa Market wondering what to eat for dinner, and there was a place with a line out the door — I got pulled in before I even realized it. You just can't walk past a place with a line, right? Walking past would honestly be a crime.

As you can see in the photo, there were tons of people — I only photographed the sign to avoid catching other customers, but a bunch of them still ended up in the shot.

My husband wanted the old-school fried chicken, and I wanted dakgangjeong, so we each ordered what we wanted: one medium dakgangjeong at medium-spicy, one whole bone-in fried chicken, chicken radish pickles, plus one extra sauce. Nailed the order, and once we ordered, the owner told us to come back in a few minutes — so we went and grabbed makgeolli (rice wine) in the meantime.
The best thing about Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch was being able to choose drumsticks, wings, and thighs separately. Sometimes you get disappointed by scrawny drumsticks, but Gimssi Chicken's drumsticks are seriously meaty.
The drumsticks are huge, and 4 pieces are ₩6,000. Four drumsticks plus a can of beer for solo drinking is pure happiness for ₩10,000 — well, actually ₩8,000 worth of happiness. Cheap prices are just part of the market's charm, right?
The old-school fried chicken is amazing too. My husband especially loves it — he'd been asking for it since yesterday, so we finally made it happen today.

They filled it so full the lid wouldn't close. That kind of generosity is amazing — the kind of generosity you only find at a market.
Isn't that sauce glistening beautifully? They also give you rice cakes with it, and the rice cakes are delicious too.
The dakgangjeong uses a moist cut of chicken rather than a dry one, so it wasn't greasy at all — light and delicious.
