Myeongil-dong jokbal restaurant, half-and-half for three: Iseon Hwaduk

In short

Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal Bossam Myeongil Branch is a wood-fired jokbal (pig's trotters) and bossam (boiled pork with wraps) restaurant in Myeongil-dong, Gangdong, Seoul. Three friends ordered the wood-fired jokbal + bossam half-and-half (medium) for 49,000 won and added spicy sauce and a Terra beer, paying 57,000 won in total; even with light appetites, the three of them finished everything. If you can't choose between jokbal and bossam, the half-and-half set is the answer, and of the two the wood-fired jokbal was the better plate.

My friends and I decided to grab dinner in the neighborhood recently, and we ended up at Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal Bossam Myeongil Branch! I wanted jokbal (pig's trotters) but also wanted bossam (boiled pork wraps), and picking just one felt like a waste haha. So we ordered the jokbal+bossam half-and-half without a second thought. Since it was three women dining together, I'll also write about how much food that actually was :)

Table space good for eating with friends

Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal Bossam Myeongil Branch was pretty clean and spacious inside. It's a neighborhood spot so we came casually with friends, and it turned out better than expected. It seemed like a good place for a casual dinner with local friends like us, but also fine for a family meal or a group gathering. Jokbal restaurants can sometimes feel chaotic, but this place had a comfortable feel where you could sit and chat while eating. We were so busy catching up with friends that day, time just flew by haha.

The half-and-half set we ordered lets you pick 2 out of 4 menu options, which I thought was a nice touch.

Jokbal + bossam half-and-half (medium), 49,000 won: enough for 3 people?

  • Half-and-half set: jokbal+bossam (medium) — ₩49,000
  • Spicy sauce — ₩3,000
  • Terra beer — ₩5,000
  • Total: ₩57,000

We ordered the jokbal+bossam half-and-half. We debated between jokbal and bossam and landed on the very reasonable conclusion of getting both haha. Honestly, ordering just one dish for three people felt lacking, but ordering multiple full dishes felt like it would leave leftovers — so the half-and-half option was perfect.

When the main dish arrived, seeing jokbal and bossam together on one plate looked really generous. For the three of us, since we don't eat huge portions, it was just the right amount. We got full but finished it all without leftovers — a good sign of proper portioning. That said, since we're not big eaters, I'd say this portion is probably right for 2 average adults.

Two things three friends liked most

  • It stays warm the whole time you're eating, doesn't go cold
  • The spicy sauce portion is generous

The spicy sauce is ₩3,000 extra, but you have to add it haha. I'm pretty sensitive to spice, but it's not overly spicy — just the right sweet-and-spicy balance that goes great with both the bossam and jokbal!!

Wood-fired jokbal vs bossam: which one to order

The wood-fire oven at the restaurant

The wood-fired jokbal (hwaduk jokbal) is made using the wood-fire oven right at the restaurant haha. And this is purely personal preference, but I liked the wood-fired jokbal more than the bossam. The jokbal had a chewy but not-too-tough texture, and I loved that distinctive chewiness in the skin. If you're a jokbal person, I think you'd probably lean toward the jokbal side too.

I also love wrapping meat in lettuce, so I piled the meat with garlic and ate it that way — that's really how jokbal should be eaten...! The bossam was soft and reliably good too, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with jokbal without hesitation! Maybe because it's wood-fired, the skin was genuinely delicious :) The bossam is good too, of course, but if I come back, I think I'd just order the wood-fired jokbal you can only get here!!

A neighborhood restaurant in Gangdong for dinner with friends

Table view of dinner with friends

That day, we weren't heading out anywhere far — just having dinner with friends in the neighborhood — and honestly, spots like this end up being the most comfortable. No need to travel far after eating well; you can chat with friends over dinner and head home easily. Jokbal and bossam are great dishes for groups, so this would work well for friend gatherings or family meals too. Especially if you're torn between jokbal and bossam, I'd recommend the half-and-half — for someone like me who wants both, it's the most sensible choice haha.

Final verdict on Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal Bossam, Myeongil-dong

The jokbal-bossam half-and-half table after finishing the meal

Overall, a comfortable spot for a casual neighborhood dinner with friends! There were three of us women, and since we don't eat huge portions, the jokbal+bossam half-and-half was just the right amount. For average adult appetites, I'd say it's suited to 2 people. Above all, I liked the wood-fired jokbal you can only get here more. But the bossam was tasty too, so getting the half-and-half set was a great call! A solid Myeongil-dong spot to visit casually with family or friends when you're craving jokbal or bossam in the neighborhood — Iseon Hwaduk Jokbal Bossam.
