Sadang basement izakaya for seasonal raw shrimp sashimi: Susan
In short
Susan Sadang Main Branch is a two-floor izakaya in Dongjak, Seoul, a 10-minute walk from Sadang Station Exit 9. The writer ate seasonal raw shrimp sashimi (₩58,000) and seoji-oden (₩30,000) at a basement table, and a friend who'd just had raw shrimp sashimi at Noryangjin Fish Market said this was better. The quiet basement floor is a good spot for blind dates or gatherings with friends.

Back at Susan, the Sadang izakaya, for raw shrimp sashimi
Today's a piping-hot review from Susan, the Sadang izakaya I visited yesterday. Sadang is basically the go-to meeting spot when I meet my friend who lives in Gyeonggi-do, right?! We had such a satisfying drinking session here last time, and this time I went back specifically for the raw shrimp sashimi! Anyone whose algorithm has been taken over by raw shrimp sashimi like mine, and anyone hunting for the best raw shrimp sashimi in Seoul — pay attention to this post!!📢
Susan, this Sadang bar, is a 10-minute walk from Sadang Station Exit 9! If you're looking for good food near Sadang Station or a Sadang bar... this is the place!!

1st floor or basement — where should you sit?
Susan, this Sadang bar, has a 1st floor and a basement floor! The space is large with plenty of tables, so it's great for Sadang gatherings or company dinners. Last time I sat on the 1st floor, but this time I went down to the basement.

The 1st floor has open floor-to-ceiling windows for a more open feel, while the basement is quieter and more atmospheric! There were couples on dates and even a birthday party. The basement seems like a great spot for a blind date or a get-together with young friends~~💌

What we ordered and the welcome drink
Here's the menu at Susan Sadang. That day we ordered the seasonal raw shrimp sashimi and seoji-oden (beef tendon oden), which was the whole point of the trip! You can order easily with the QR code at each table👍

They gave us a glass of sake as a welcome drink. Clean and refreshing sake!! Love a good welcome drink🍶

Raw shrimp sashimi ₩58,000 — better than Noryangjin, and here's why
Raw shrimp sashimi (₩58,000) ✨✨Today's star has arrived!✨✨ Last time at Susan I had flounder and yukhoe (raw beef), and it was so good that I expected the raw shrimp sashimi to be great too, so I ordered it! The owner gave us not just the classic vinegared chili paste but sriracha mayo too — total flavor genius🫠 The raw shrimp sashimi was springy and had this insane sweet umami flavor that filled my whole mouth!!
My friend recently went to Noryangjin Fish Market specifically for raw shrimp sashimi, and she said this was way better than what she had there!! That settles it. If you're looking for the best raw shrimp sashimi in Seoul, skip the fish market and go to Susan in Sadang....🤤

Seoji-oden ₩30,000 — a portion that never seems to shrink
Seoji-oden (₩30,000) An oden (fish cake) hot pot with chewy beef tendon and springy fish cake. It's loaded with fish cake, tendon, radish, rice cake, egg, cellophane noodles, and vegetables, so no matter how much you eat, the portion never seems to shrink. Perfect for sipping bite by bite while eating the sashimi!

Can you feel how thick that fish cake is🍢 You could tell it was good quality fish cake!!

With side dishes this good, you can't resist a shot of soju ..😵💫

Fried shrimp heads and hotteok ice cream too
The kind owner deep-fried the shrimp heads for us too! Nothing about this shrimp goes to waste 🦐

I had hotteok (Korean sweet pancake) ice cream last time as part of a review event and it was so good that I joined the event again this time! Hot hotteok and cold vanilla ice cream come together in that sweet-and-salty combo, and it's such a great way to finish off the meal. Everyone should join the review event so you can try the hotteok ice cream too🍨🤍
The staff were kind and the sashimi was properly fresh — overall a great time at Susan, this Sadang izakaya!
