Jjamppong Sundubu Breakfast Set at Kongbatteul, a Sokcho Tofu

First morning of our Sokcho family trip, we got there early and were hunting for breakfast when we found Kongbatteul Sokcho branch, open from 8am! I thought we'd just get a bowl of sundubu (soft tofu stew), but it turned out to be a full tofu set with a bunch of tofu side dishes for just ₩10,000. Such a great-value, delicious breakfast …♥

Kongbatteul Sokcho — hours, location, parking

The building is big so it wasn't hard to spot from outside. There's a parking lot in front with room for about 6 cars, so we parked and headed in!!

At the entrance I noticed it's been featured on several TV shows, from Live Today to Amazing Saturday to Today N. We just came for breakfast with zero info and it turned out we'd stumbled onto somewhere legit — hype level rising lol

Inside the restaurant and seating — there's even a baby chair

Inside was way more spacious and pleasant than I expected ★ Even though it was early morning, there were already travelers eating, and there were several 4-person tables set up. haha

If you push the tables together, it can easily seat a group of 8 or more, so it's perfect for a Sokcho family trip breakfast!! ★

There was also a separate baby chair available, so it looks convenient to visit with a young baby too!

Every meal comes as a tofu set, ₩10,000 per person

All the meal options at Kongbatteul come as a tofu set. The base price is ₩10,000 per person, and choosing seafood sundubu adds ₩1,000.

I wanted to properly try Sokcho-style jjamppong sundubu so I ordered that, Mom went for seafood sundubu, Dad ordered chodubu (soft raw tofu), and my sibling got tteok-mandu-guk (rice cake and dumpling soup)!!

They were also running a receipt review event — if you participate, you get 350ml of soybean milk or a drink for free.

Once we sat down, the owner brought us aprons first. Getting red broth splashed on your clothes is sad, so we tied on our aprons properly and got ready to eat lol

What comes with the tofu set as standard side dishes

Even before the main dishes arrived, the table filled up with side dishes: tofu kimchi, cucumber-chili doenjang mix, muk-muchim (jelly salad), kimchi, tofu sweet-and-sour, tofu-tteokgalbi, seasoned soybeans, and soybean milk!

Only the main dish differs by what each person orders — this whole hearty tofu spread comes standard, and since even the side dishes are mostly tofu- and soy-based, you could really feel this is a restaurant that's serious about tofu.

Best side dishes: tofu sweet-and-sour and tofu kimchi

In my heart, the best side dishes were the tofu sweet-and-sour and tofu kimchi …♥ The tofu sweet-and-sour was chewy outside and soft inside, pairing great with the sweet sauce, and the tofu kimchi — putting kimchi on plain, mellow tofu — was a familiar flavor but I couldn't stop reaching for it, haha.

Soybean milk — the whole family raved about it

This was actually the first time I properly drank soybean milk, and... the nutty soybean flavor was seriously intense!! Almost no greasiness or fishy taste, just clean and mellow going down, and the whole family raved about it!! ★★★★★

Comparing tteok-mandu-guk, chodubu, seafood sundubu, and jjamppong sundubu

First to arrive was my sibling's tteok-mandu-guk! It had big, hearty dumplings in it, so the moment it landed I stole one lol

The dumpling filling was generous and the broth wasn't too intense, so it seems like a great option for kids or anyone who can't handle spicy food.

Dad's chodubu was soft, cloud-like tofu that let you enjoy the plain, clean flavor of tofu itself! Eating it alongside the various tofu side dishes made it filling rather than bland, and Dad said the chodubu was delicious lol

But the women in the family are spicy-food lovers ~ ♥ Mom and I ordered seafood sundubu and jjamppong sundubu! Mom's seafood sundubu, with the extra ₩1,000, came generously loaded with seafood!

Scooping it up with a spoon, you got sundubu and seafood together, and the broth had a refreshing savory depth — definitely worth the extra ₩1,000, haha.

Finally, my choice — jjamppong sundubu! The spicy red broth was packed with soft, cloudy sundubu, plus seafood like clams and mussels, making the broth refreshing yet deeply savory.♥

Mixing the spicy broth into rice and pairing it with the nutty tofu side dishes in between, I demolished a whole bowl of rice first thing in the morning lol If you're looking for jjamppong sundubu in Sokcho, I'd definitely recommend Kongbatteul's full-spread setup.

What does takeout cost if you want to eat at your accommodation?

If you'd rather eat comfortably at a nearby resort or accommodation, the takeout menu is great too. Jjamppong sundubu, seafood sundubu, and chodubu are all available as 3 servings for ₩15,000, making for a super value breakfast at your lodging too!!

Inside, there are separate men's and women's restrooms, and apparently if you bring your Kongbatteul receipt, you can get a discount on Americano at nearby Aaron Burger Club ~

Also, the restaurant had a country-of-origin display posted, and Sokcho Love Gift Certificates were accepted.

With spacious seating, a baby chair, convenient parking, and a whole spread of tofu dishes for ₩10,000, Kongbatteul Sokcho left the whole family satisfied!
