Hyehwa restaurant 2 minutes from the station for less-spicy fan steak
In short
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is a Western-style restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building on Daemyeong-gil, just 2 minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station in Jongno, Seoul. Three dishes — gochujang butter pasta at ₩18,900, fan steak spicy risotto at ₩17,900 ordered 'less spicy,' and truffle fries at ₩9,900 — came to ₩46,700 for two. The window bar seats were full, but the roomier hall table turned out to be no downgrade, and the plates came back scraped clean.

Two minutes from Hyehwa Station, a meal before the play
Omil sits exactly 163 meters — a precise 2-minute walk — from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station. On a Daehangno date where you need to squeeze in a meal before or after a play, that 2-minute number is a matter of survival.
The clock was ticking and my stomach was growling, but I didn't want just any ordinary Western food. Looking for somewhere reasonably tidy and reliably good, I climbed the stairs to the second floor.

The moment I walked in, the cute, Japanese-leaning interior and the 2-person bar table by the window caught my eye. Instead of the usual chaos you get at Hyehwa pasta places, there was a clean, comfortable air about it — an immediate pass mark from me.

Ordering: gochujang butter pasta, fan steak spicy risotto, and fries
Ordering was done via a QR code on the table. Since it was my first visit, I'd walked in aiming for their signature omurice, but the strange name 'gochujang butter pasta' on the menu grabbed my attention.

It's a ₩18,900 dish nicknamed 'K-butter pasta.' Could Western butter really work with Korean gochujang (fermented chili paste)?
After serious deliberation, I picked one pasta, the fan steak spicy risotto, and truffle fries as a side.
The risotto was ₩17,900, and since I'm weak with spicy food, I carefully selected 'less spicy' from the options. Add the ₩9,900 fries, and the total came to ₩46,700.

The window bar seats were already full
My first plan hit a small snag. While waiting for the food and looking around the restaurant, I saw the window bar seats already taken by couples. My luxurious plan to eat while watching Daehangno street through the window shattered into pieces.

We ended up at a regular table in the inner hall, and it turned out not to be a bad choice at all — we actually got to eat comfortably in a much roomier spot.

Gochujang butter pasta: a balance of richness and heat
Once the food arrived, I finally faced the gochujang butter pasta. A piece of butter sat quietly on top of the reddish sauce. I wound the noodles around my fork and took the first bite.

On the first chew, the rich, savory dairy flavor of butter wrapped softly around my whole tongue. Then, on the second and third chew, the deep, tingling savoriness of gochujang came pushing through.

Normally, cream pasta starts to feel greasy after about three bites, but this was different. Right when it was about to feel too rich, gochujang's heat cleanly cut through; right when it was about to feel too spicy, the butter's richness gently pressed it back down. It was a meticulously calculated balance of flavors.

The fan steak spicy risotto, ordered 'less spicy'
The fan steak spicy risotto, requested less spicy, was excellent too. I chewed a piece of fan steak — browned outside, moist inside — together with the risotto rice.

The popping texture of the rice grains combined with the juicy burst of the fan steak made every bite genuinely fun.

Truffle fries, ₩9,900
The ₩9,900 truffle fries had a crispy exterior with the fluffy softness of potato still alive underneath, and the truffle aroma brushing past my nose rounded off the whole meal.

A plate that made me forget the pickles
Wait, wasn't I supposed to be the person who reaches for the pickles first when eating pasta?
Without even a moment to grab a pickle slice, I found myself scraping the sauce all the way to the bottom of the bowl.
The answer to my Hyehwa pasta search wasn't far away at all. A plate emptied cleanly, without any heaviness, proved everything.

For a light date or whenever you need a mood lift and want a special twist on a familiar Western menu, this is a place you'll come knocking on again without hesitation.
Like red gochujang and yellow butter secretly mingling on a fork, in a cozy second-floor corner of Hyehwa, an ordinary day of ours gets colored with a sweet, tingling flavor too. What's left after scraping the bowl clean isn't just fullness, but a pleasant lingering feeling that makes you want to come back.
