This restaurant has great service: you can help yourself to gondre rice (rice with Korean thistle) and side dishes, then enjoy snacks and a slushie after your meal. At ₩13,000 per person, the food is great value too—Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu really delivers on both taste and price :p

I ordered the rolled dumpling hot pot. The kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), meat, and juk (rice porridge) all arrive together. Once the shabu-shabu ingredients come to a boil, add whichever ingredients you want next and dig in.

The rolled dumplings are handmade at Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu, which makes them even tastier. There are two kinds—kimchi and meat—so you can choose the flavor you like.

Shabu-shabu with beef added

Add the meat partway through and there you have beef shabu-shabu ♥ The beef is tender and good quality, so it is really great to share with children~

I cooked the meat dumplings first and ate them with my child, and they ate them up so well~ The dumpling wrappers are thin, so they are easy to enjoy without feeling heavy :p

The kimchi dumplings release spicy sauce as they cook, so if you are eating with children, the meat dumplings are the better choice~ But I absolutely could not give up the kimchi dumplings! Cook the meat dumplings first and set some broth aside, then you can enjoy the kimchi dumplings too without any trouble, so keep that in mind^^

As much gondre rice as you want

Serving as much gondre rice as desired

Because you can serve yourself as much gondre rice as you want, I had some while the hot pot was cooking, some with the hot pot, and some again to finish... haha. Gondre rice is not heavy, and it had been a while since I last had it, so it was really delicious~

Finish with kalguksu and juk

When the hot pot is nearly finished, add the kalguksu noodles and bring it to a boil. The wheat noodles take time to cook through, so give yourself a little extra time. They turn out wonderfully soft and delicious!

Juk is another special treat that I could never skip. Add rice, a few vegetables, and an egg to the remaining broth, and a wonderful bowl of juk is complete.

After the meal, you can have rice snacks and a slushie, but the slushie cannot be consumed inside, so take it to go. Taking dessert along for the ride home made it feel even more fun :p
