Thick pork belly with soju and steamed egg at Dongnaejeong

I've been having dinner near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office pretty often lately. This time I really wanted proper meat, so I went to Dongnaejeong Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Main Branch, a Korean BBQ restaurant :)

It's a place for grilling thick pork over charcoal, and staff grill the meat for you so you can just relax and eat! The pork was thicker than I expected and packed with juice — anyone who loves meat should give it a try.

Being near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office, it's a great spot for dinner after work or for meat and a soju. Hours are Mon-Sat 15:00-23:00, last order 22:30, so keep that in mind before visiting.

Thick pork is the main event

Dongnaejeong says it uses selected domestic pork. The menu includes jeongga brisal, Dongnae pork neck, whole pork belly, whole hanger steak, and more. The moment the meat arrived, the first thing I felt was—

whoa, it's really thick haha. Not the thin pork-belly style — each piece was a chunky slab, exactly my type since I love a good chew.

A Yeongdeungpo-gu Office spot that's even easier since staff grill it for you

Something I personally loved: staff grill the meat for you. With thick cuts, it's hard to time it right if you're holding the tongs and flipping constantly.

Here they grill and cut it for you, so you can just chat with your company while waiting comfortably. Watching the thick meat brown on the grill with juices rising up, I was snapping photos but honestly just wanted to eat haha. The store recommends eating the pork at about 80-90% doneness.

Golden outside, juicy inside

They cut it into bite-sized pieces as they grill — the thickness is insane even in photos, right? The outside was browned nicely while the inside stayed moist.

Pork this thick can turn dry if overcooked, but grilled just right, it was definitely tender. It's tasty plain, but dipping it lightly in salt brought out the pork's own savory flavor even more,

and paired with ssamjang or wasabi, it was a whole different feel!

They also grilled garlic on one side of the grill until golden.

Can't skip gyeranjjim with meat

The fluffy gyeranjjim (steamed egg) I had alongside the meat. The puffed-up look rising above the earthenware bowl was totally my style haha.

Warm and soft, it was great for a bite here and there between servings of meat. Meat → gyeranjjim → meat again. Somehow this combo keeps going.

And of course, soju haha

With meat grilled this well, there's no way I could skip soju.

There are also sides like Jeju sanbang milmyeon (cold wheat noodles) and melchorim fried rice, so you can round off the meal with a finishing dish too. Next time I'd like to try the meat with bibim milmyeon as well.
