Whenever I want a small but sure dose of happiness in the middle of a busy day, I always head to a bakery café full of the smell of toasty bread! I had somewhere to be in Yeongdeungpo recently, so I stopped by a Dangsan-dong bakery that bread pilgrims have been buzzing about for its salt bread, bagels and baked sweets.

This is BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch, where you can try everything from the Dubai chocolate salt bread that TV personality Joo Woo-jae famously ranked number one, to the flashy-looking wakppu salt bread, chewy-to-the-max bagels, and financiers that are the textbook definition of crisp outside, soft inside!

'Happiness in a BYWAY': a warm European alley look inside BYWAY BAKERS
Happiness in a BYWAY — the small happiness hidden in the alleys in between
True to the store's slogan, BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch gives off warm, cozy European bakery vibes the moment you walk in.
The interior is spacious and open, so you can enjoy your dessert and coffee comfortably. There's a full range of seating — a sunlit bar table with great atmosphere, wooden tables for two to four for quiet chats, and a large solid-wood table for bigger groups. Baby chairs, a waiting area, free Wi-Fi, and a wheelchair-accessible entrance and restroom are all carefully maintained, making it a solid spot for a date, family outing, or friend gathering in Yeongdeungpo.
At the back, there's an open baking area where the bread is made fresh, and in front of it, around 50 varieties of bread baked fresh every morning are lined up, giving off a fragrant buttery smell — picking was genuinely a feast for the eyes and nose!
BYWAY BAKERS drink menu and prices ☕
True to a dessert-focused bakery café, BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch's drink menu is well stocked too. Honest tasting notes: salt bread, bagels and financiers
BYWAY BAKERS has a full lineup of its signature salt bread and financiers, plus a bagel line that's rising fast in popularity — let me review each one honestly!
🍓 The social media favourite: wakppu salt bread (peach, fresh blueberry, mango yogurt and more)
This is BYWAY's uniquely eye-catching menu item that's been super hot on social media lately — the 'wakppu salt bread' (short for 'completely drizzled salt bread')! Also a fantastic gift!!!

A golden-brown salt bread piled generously with soft, tangy yogurt cream, fruit jam and fruit topping, served in a fruit netting wrap — the look alone made my heart skip a beat. There's a huge variety of bakery items, and watching the staff make everything by hand really builds trust ^^?

The salty, buttery flavor of the salt bread itself pairs beautifully with the light, tangy yogurt cream — the sweet-salty-tangy balance is a work of art. Even with all that generous cream, there's no greasiness at all, which is why the general consensus is that you can enjoy it right to the last bite.

🥯 Chewy texture champion: plain and cream cheese bagels
BYWAY BAKERS isn't just famous for its salt bread — it's also known as a bagel destination!
Golden and crisp on the outside, dense and chewy on the inside — that's the defining trait here. The more you chew, the more that clean, nutty grain flavor spreads out, and it's delicious even plain. Slathering it generously with the store's own soft house-made cream cheese made it a fully satisfying breakfast or brunch-worthy meal on its own.

Crisp outside, chewy inside: BYWAY BAKERS house-made financiers
Alongside the salt bread, this is the other foundational item at BYWAY BAKERS — the financier! Highly, highly recommend💕
Made with good butter for a rich, toasty flavor, these financiers are crisp on the outside and densely chewy-moist on the inside with the first bite — it's perfect. There's a range from plain financiers to more distinctive ones with sweet toppings, and they come in gift boxes too, making them a great choice for return gifts or a box of baked sweets.
Joo Woo-jae's top pick: Dubai chocolate salt bread
And of course, the Dubai chocolate salt bread — famous for being TV personality Joo Woo-jae's number one pick — is a signature you can't skip.

Inside the crisp, salty bread is a luxurious pistachio cream, crunchy kadayif and a rich chocolate coating combined together, delivering a wide range of textures and flavors in every bite. Beyond that, there were also cute chestnut-shaped breads, cakes, and the dujjokku line — plenty to choose from depending on what you're on a bread pilgrimage for.
From healthy breads to retro breads to the ones everyone's talking about — it's got it all covered haha.
