Rainy-day pig feet and cream sujebi at Jansang, a Busan Deokcheon bar

Guess what I ate today.

On rainy days I honestly love just staying home, but I had plans after a while so I got ready to go out haha. First time in Deokcheon in years, so I searched around and noticed everyone was heading to one particular spot!

If you like outdoor seating plus rich, spicy bar snacks, save this one and make sure to go. Also, this is Jansang, the new spot that Chwidam recently opened — I'd been to Jansang's Deokcheon food spot a few times before.

What's the atmosphere like? Inside was full, so the outdoor passage seats were the answer

Being a new, popular Deokcheon Korean bar, the inside was already fully booked... I'd wondered where all the young people in Deokcheon had gone, and turns out they were all here.

Inside was full, but luckily there were seats in the outdoor passage area. We'd already had our eye on the entrance seats since we wanted to drink while listening to the rain, so this was even more satisfying. We got lucky — exactly two tables were open, so we sat right down.

You can see how cool it was inside from the fogged-up windows. Feeling the AC breeze, watching the rain fall, with delicious snacks on the way.

The menu

Looking at the menu, being a new spot, the snack lineup was insane... Just reading the names of the dishes at this Deokcheon bar made everything sound delicious.

After a lot of deliberating, we picked two dishes and finished the order with rice too.

Honey twist doughnuts in the basic side dish set?

After ordering, three simple side dishes were set out. True to a Korean bar, there were pickled onions plus dried radish strips, and unusually, honey twist doughnuts (kkul-kkwabaegi) came as a default snack! It'd been a while since I had them, so they went down so easily and I finished them fast — sweet and crispy, great as a drinking snack.

New menu: seasoned pig's feet, ₩23,000

Wait... is it even allowed to make grilled pig's feet look this high-quality? For reference, they said this was the newly launched menu item this time!

It comes set on a hot stone plate, so you can eat it warm all the way to the end.

They put the stone plate over a flame so you can keep eating it warm the whole time. Also, unlike other grilled pig's feet dishes, the meaty parts weren't thin — they were thick, which I really liked haha. Plus they piled on a generous amount, so overall satisfaction was way up.

With the tongs and scissors they gave us, we cut off a big chunk of meat and took a bite right away. The sauce was moderately spicy, so it was delicious every time you tore off a piece, and the bean sprouts and vegetables underneath wilted down and soaked up the sauce nicely — I bet adding noodles at the end and frying them up would be great too!

Cheongyang cream sujebi, the best order for a rainy day, ₩17,000

This cheongyang cream sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) was really the right call for a rainy day. It came loaded with sujebi plus bacon, mushrooms, mini garlic baguette slices, onion, chili oil, and chili peppers. I took a bite right away — it was mild with a bit of spice, so I could eat it without feeling overwhelmed, which I loved haha.

True to its name, it was loaded with sujebi, so I could eat it with just a spoon, which made it easy. Think of it as a soft cream pasta sauce made slightly spicy, with chewy sujebi mixed in haha. You know exactly the kind of dish that would win over a girlfriend if you brought her here and ordered it for her.

How to enjoy it even more

Once the vegetables in the seasoned pig's feet mixed with the sauce, an even tastier sauce formed! And once we'd eaten some of the pig's feet, there was room on the plate! So right away we put the sujebi and rice on the hot plate. Isn't this basically fried rice plus an extra serving of sujebi? Haha.

Also, dipping the seasoned pig's feet into the cream sauce from the cheongyang cream sujebi was, of course, delicious plus delicious equals amazing. The combination of the two dishes worked really well.

On a rainy day, good food in a cool, comfortable spot is always the right call...
