Yeouido izakaya bacon tomato & chicken skin skewers: Robadayakki

In short

Robadayakki Sodam Yeouido Branch is a traditional Japanese charcoal-grilled skewer izakaya near Saetgang Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. A Yeouido office worker of 10 years came with coworkers for a second round and ordered bacon tomato skewers, chicken skewers, chicken skin skewers and altang (spicy fish roe stew) at a table seat, starting with the complimentary fried egg cooked on the griddle. From that starter to the punchy soup, Robadayakki Sodam kept a good balance of drinking snacks and suits a light after-work drink and a long chat.

I'm a 10-year Yeouido office worker who, come quitting time, always ends up thinking with coworkers, "where should we go light for round two tonight?" After filling up at round one, what really comes to mind is a neat Japanese skewer grill or a hot, spicy soup, right? Today I'll introduce a proper Yeouido izakaya, Robadayakki Sodam. It was such a nice spot to sip a cold draft beer or a glass of sake and chat away after work.

Seating at Robadayakki Sodam is basically split into two types: dachi seats (bar counter) and table seats. Walking in through the door, the warm wood interior and soft lighting give off the feel of an old-school local izakaya in Japan.

  • Dachi seats: you can watch the fresh ingredients up close and see the skewers being grilled right on the charcoal grill in front of you — genuinely fun to watch. Great for sitting side by side on a date and chatting.
  • Table seats: the wood partitions and lattice interior give a cozy, private feel. Comfortable for a quiet second round with coworkers or a work dinner.

What we ordered and how the skewers tasted

Seeing the fresh fish laid out on ice and the skewer ingredients neatly arranged on the dachi counter showcase really got my appetite going.

That day we ordered grilled skewers (bacon tomato, chicken, chicken skin) and altang (fish roe stew) for a soup-based snack.

Before the main snacks arrived, a fried egg sizzled off the griddle to gently warm up our stomachs first. That savory smell really sharpened the appetite.

1. Bacon tomato skewer

Thin bacon wrapped around cherry tomatoes came out grilled to a perfect golden brown. Bite in and behind the salty, charcoal-scented bacon, the hot, tangy tomato juice bursts right out — the balance of sweet-salty and tartness was really excellent. Nothing beats this as a drinking snack! 🍅🥓

2. Chicken skewer and chicken skin skewer

The izakaya basics and signature dishes — chicken skewer and chicken skin — really need no introduction as a combo.

  • Chicken skewer: the meat isn't dry at all, holding in plenty of juice, and delivers a clean flavor the more you chew.
  • Chicken skin: crispy outside, chewy inside, with that distinctive savory fat that spreads through your mouth — perfect with beer or a highball.

3. Spicy altang, the fish roe stew that settles the stomach

Just as we were craving some soup after all the skewers, this hearty altang (fish roe stew) showed up. The pot was packed generously with chunky radish, bean sprouts, minari (water celery), and plenty of fish roe and gonni (fish milt).

The roe was so full that each bite had a popping texture that was genuinely fun to eat. A spoonful of the broth was spicy yet refreshing and clean — the kind of deep flavor that feels like it's curing your hangover as you drink. I'd strongly recommend this to anyone who's a soju or sake person. 🍲

Final verdict: is Robadayakki Sodam worth a second visit?

  • Taste: a perfect balance between charcoal-grilled skewers that taste of genuinely fresh ingredients and a rich, generously packed altang
  • Atmosphere: the liveliness of the dachi counter and the privacy of the table seats coexist, making it perfect for a Yeouido office worker's second round or a date
  • Would I return: 100%! I think I'll come back again whenever I want tasty skewers and a cold drink after work

If you're looking for a good-atmosphere, properly done Japanese charcoal grill and drinking snacks in Yeouido, I recommend Robadayakki Sodam!!
