Hi, this is Yeojeong 😊 I went out to Daejeon today! The temperature swings have been pretty big lately and it's gotten chilly, so I've been craving hot broth!! It had also been a while since I'd had seafood, so I searched for a good seafood spot and found a place famous as a Yongjeon, Daejeon restaurant. That's how I discovered Widaehan Jogae Jeongol in Dong-gu, Daejeon!! I saw the photos and the visuals alone were so amazing my mouth was watering… so I went with my friends and dug right in haha❣️

There's ample parking behind the restaurant so we parked in the backstreet. The exterior was clean and modern-looking haha

Is Widaehan Jogae Jeongol good for group dinners?

The inside of Widaehan Jogae Jeongol is pretty spacious, so it seemed like a good spot for group gatherings too haha

The tables were spaced well apart, so it didn't feel cramped and seemed great for group gatherings.

What we ordered: clam hot pot for 4

Widaehan Jogae Jeongol's signature dish is the clam hot pot, and they also have clam samhap (mixed raw seafood) and various side dishes! We started with the clam hot pot.

They also have high chairs, so it's an easy spot for families to visit too!

Not long after ordering, an enormous pot arrived!! We ordered the clam hot pot for 4, and the portion was huge!

What goes into the clam hot pot, and how the broth tastes

Wow, can you see this?! Such an abundance of seafood!! The clam hot pot was so generously loaded from the moment it arrived, I was fully, completely satisfied. There was a great variety of clams, and the broth had a deep, rich seafood flavor that was refreshing and clean!! It wasn't overly salty or spicy, so I just kept spooning it up ㅠㅠ

Scallops, razor clams, abalone, fish cake, and even chewy cheese..!!!

It's fun picking the clam meat out of the shells one by one, and after eating your fill, you can add kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) noodles into the broth — genuinely great as a drinking snack and just as good as a full meal.

What stood out most was really the generous visuals. When the clam hot pot came out to the table, it was packed with such a variety of clams that just looking at it felt satisfying ㅠㅠ It's a lineup that'll fully satisfy anyone who loves clams, and it's also great for sharing with a group.

The broth clearly had that refreshing flavor drawn from the clams and seafood. It wasn't overly salty or sharp — clean but with a deep umami that kept me coming back for more ㅠㅠ At first it tasted mild, but the longer it simmered, the stronger the clam flavor got, and I loved how the broth kept deepening. It also pairs really well with a drink, and it's the kind of flavor you'd crave especially on a chilly day.

It was fun picking through the different types of clams one by one. Digging each one out of its shell, the portion turned out to be more than expected, and the clams' distinctive plump texture held up well, which was satisfying. The broth was properly infused with clam flavor, so the clams alone were great, but even better paired with the broth.

How was the kalguksu at the end?

Personally, the kalguksu at the end was really something. After eating the clams for a while, adding kalguksu noodles into the richly infused broth felt like a completely different dish. The noodles soaked up the clam broth, deepening the umami even more, and the chewy noodles paired perfectly with the refreshing broth. Eating the kalguksu after the clam hot pot made it feel like a proper, complete meal.

Who should eat at Widaehan Jogae Jeongol?

Overall, the portions were generous and it was a solid, filling meal. It's fine to visit with family, and just as good for drinks with friends. The menu itself doesn't have much of a love-it-or-hate-it factor, so it's an easy pick for a group visit too.

These days, a lot of famous restaurants lean toward flashy or overly styled food that's more about photos, but Widaehan Jogae Jeongol felt more like a neighborhood spot where Daejeon locals can come comfortably and eat a generous meal. Being able to enjoy everything from the clam hot pot to the kalguksu in one sitting made for a very satisfying visit, and getting so full for the price was a real plus ㅠㅠ
