Gangneung ocean-view café for morning coffee and bread: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café directly across from Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung. I stopped by around its weekend opening time for coffee and bread by the sea; it was quiet with little wait, and I preferred the fig campagne over the other bread.

On the final morning of my Gangneung trip, I returned to Baegya Coffee (백야커피) in front of Sageunjin Beach. I have visited several times whenever I come to Gangneung, but this time I especially liked the calm atmosphere around weekend opening time.

How close is it to Sageunjin Beach, and is parking easy?

Baegya Coffee is directly across from Sageunjin Beach. Sageunjin is my favorite beach in Gangneung. Its cozy atmosphere and spaces suitable for a car picnic keep bringing me back.

There is a large parking area in front of the café, and another lot further up behind it. However, I often found even these spaces full on weekends. Based on the original visit, parking was also possible along the road by the beach, but the café lots were not always spacious.

What was good about visiting around opening time?

This is a large, multi-floor café, so there is plenty of space. Each floor had a slightly different mood, and I would go out onto the terrace when the weather was good.

At the time of my visit, opening time was 9 AM. I had originally planned to stop by after lunch, but came for morning coffee instead. Since I arrived almost as soon as the doors opened, I could stay in peace and quiet.

What did I order, and how much was it?

A hot Americano was ₩5,500 and a hot cappuccino was ₩6,000. For bread, I chose fig campagne and what I remember as a butter pretzel. I do not remember the exact name of the second bread.

I ordered the cappuccino again because I remembered enjoying it on a previous visit. I was also curious about the signature oksigi ice cream, but did not try it this time.

Choosing morning coffee and bread at Baegya Coffee

There was still a wide variety of bread available in the morning. As someone who likes bread, I was glad to have plenty to choose from.

The wait to order was short this time, too. I would like to come in the morning again and enjoy coffee and bread for brunch.

Being able to eat bread while looking at the sea is what brings me back here. Of the breads I have tried over several visits, I especially liked the healthier-style loaves.

There were also several kinds of cake slices prepared.

What are the best sea-view seats and amenities like?

Although each floor had a slightly different atmosphere, they were similarly arranged with large windows overlooking the sea. I usually liked the third floor and often stayed there. This time, it was a little hot and windy, so I enjoyed the sea indoors instead of on the terrace.

Phone charging service and high chairs were available.

It was also convenient that supplies were available for packing up leftover bread. We packed ours and ate it in the car on the way back to Seoul.

How does Sageunjin Beach look from the rooftop?

This was my first time going up to the fourth-floor rooftop. It had usually been busy on my previous visits, so I had not felt the need to go up, but this weekend morning was quiet enough that I wanted to look around.

Sageunjin Beach was even easier to see from the rooftop. There was also a photo spot, but my husband and I did not take a selfie.

We sat at a table with a clear view of the beach and rested. Unlike when it was crowded, the sound did not echo this time, so we could enjoy the sea quietly.

Did the coffee and bread suit my taste?

The coffee we drank had a slightly dark, nutty flavor that suited my taste. You could also choose acidic coffee or decaf.

I liked taking my time over coffee and bread while looking out at the sea.

Of the two breads we chose, the fig campagne suited my taste better. I think I would choose the same bread next time.

Baegya Coffee is a place I have returned to several times because it is good for resting in a clean café while looking at the Sageunjin sea through its large windows. I especially liked the quiet morning atmosphere this time, so I plan to visit in the morning again.
