Daegu Korean restaurant with Seoul-style bulgogi: Taegyeongok

In short

Taegyeongok is a Korean restaurant near Kyungpook National University Hospital Station in Jung-gu, Daegu. We had Seoul-style bulgogi piled high with mung bean sprouts, generously filled dumplings, and unexpectedly excellent spicy Hamheung naengmyeon. Verdict: the sweet bulgogi and savory-spicy noodles were an especially memorable pairing.

Taegyeongok’s bright, tidy interior

If you’re looking for a restaurant to visit with your dog in Daegu, or simply a clean Korean restaurant, Taegyeongok near Kyungpook National University Hospital Station is worth a look :) My very first thought upon walking in was, wow, this place is so neat! It had the polished Korean restaurant feel of Ikseon-dong or Samcheong-dong, but without being too formal or stiff. Even though we weren’t seated directly in the sunlight, the whole space felt bright, which I loved.

We made our reservation with children included,

and I was impressed that they had prepared a children’s spoon-and-fork set separately at the table! Haha. It may seem like a small thing, but when you go out to eat with kids, these thoughtful touches are always so welcome :) It felt comfortable from the start as a place for a family meal.

The complimentary side dishes that arrived as soon as we sat down were wholesome and neatly presented too :)

Seoul-style bulgogi piled like a mountain with sprouts

For our first dish, we ordered the large Seoul-style bulgogi. It’s said to be a good size for 3–4 people to share, and the sight of it when it first arrived—heaped high with mung bean sprouts and meat—was seriously impressive.

Whenever I eat bulgogi in Seoul, it always comes in this style, so I’d never stopped to think of it as Seoul-style bulgogi. Only after seeing the menu did I think, ah, so this is Seoul-style bulgogi!!! It suddenly felt so funny to me, haha.

There were not only mung bean sprouts but also plenty of onions, scallions, napa cabbage, and mushrooms. It really felt like they had been generous with the ingredients, and there was a decent amount of meat too, making it a great main dish to share when visiting with several people.

Take a bite of the nicely cooked bulgogi topped generously with mung bean sprouts and onions, and it’s absolutely amazing 🥹 Tender beef, crisp vegetables, and sweet sauce all come together at once. Looking at these photos again while writing this is making my mouth water all over againㅠㅠ..♥

Taegyeongok’s signature meat dumplings, packed full

Taegyeongok’s signature meat dumplings

Our next dish was Taegyeongok Mandu, Taegyeongok’s signature meat dumplings!

Taegyeongok dumpling packed with filling

When we split one in half, the filling was packed in without any gaps, and above all, the dumpling wrapper was just so soft. It felt luxurious?! It wasn’t a wrapper that simply tore easily because it was soft; it also had a slight chew, which went beautifully with the filling. They were lovely to have one at a time between bites of bulgogi, and since they weren’t spicy, they were a good dish to share with children too :)

Hamheung spicy naengmyeon that won me over without big expectations

The final thing we ordered was spicy naengmyeon, one of the Hamheung naengmyeon (cold noodle) options.

Honestly, I thought the bulgogi and dumplings would be the stars, so I wasn’t expecting much from the noodles—but one bite in, they were far better than expected, and we finished every last bit haha.

This wasn’t naengmyeon that was aggressively hot for the sake of it. The seasoning had savoriness and depth, making it feel like a refined spicy naengmyeon. It didn’t feel doused in capsaicin at all! A bite of spicy noodles after the sweet bulgogi freshened up my palate, and the pairing was so good. I’d definitely want to order this again next time ><
