Jung-gu Daegu Korean restaurant for family bossam: Uldong Bossam

My children like bossam, so we had dinner at Uldong Bossam (울동보쌈) in Dongin-dong. The four of us ordered the large Uldong Bossam set, which came with neatly arranged meat and side dishes. The children ate the meat well, too.

Where is Uldong Bossam, and when is it open?

The address is 279 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, first floor, Jung-gu, Daegu. It is near City Hall and also close to Gyodong, Dongseong-ro, and Gukchaebosang Memorial Park. According to the original post, it is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with a break from 3 to 5 p.m.

What was the atmosphere like for a family meal with children?

The exterior was clean, with green potted plants by the entrance. Inside, there were customers who appeared to be families with children, as well as people enjoying a drink with their meal. It felt clean and cozy, and I thought it would work well not only for a family meal but also for a date.

What did the family of four order?

The signature menu is the one-person bossam set, which is available for solo diners.

Since there were four of us, we ordered the large Uldong Bossam set. I also wanted to try the potato pancake, but I decided not to order it this time because I was worried the portions would be too large.

The alcohol selection included several options, such as beer, soju, makgeolli, and whiskey.

How were the side dishes and stew with the bossam?

The meal was arranged neatly when it arrived. I liked the homemade side dishes, and seeing the spread made me think it would also be a comfortable place to bring my parents for a meal.

We also had the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). It was hot, spicy, and had a rich broth. With the bossam, side dishes, and stew, there was plenty to make dinner satisfying.

Did the children enjoy the bossam?

The meat was moist and tender. The children said it was delicious and ate well. I did not notice any unpleasant smell or greasy taste, and I liked the texture of the tender lean meat together with the chewy fat.

I ate mine with rice and the side dishes. The children also wrapped the meat in ssam (leaf wraps) and topped it with saeujeot (salted shrimp). I liked both ways of eating it—wrapped in ssam or placed on rice.

What would I like to eat on my next visit?

I also regretted not being able to enjoy a beer with my husband this time. On my next visit, I would like to try the potato pancake and bossam hot pot that we missed, along with beer.

Group dining is also possible. Based on this family dinner, I would consider it for a family gathering, a get-together with friends, or a company dinner.
