Today I'm bringing you a review of a late lunch I had with my grandma near Hyehwa — this is < Omil Hyehwa Daehangno >!
I'd noticed the cute-looking omurice here a while back and kept meaning to go, and then I heard their 3rd branch had just opened in Hyehwa, so I hurried over :)
Where is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno, and what is the restaurant like?
Omil is on the 2nd floor of an alley in Daehangno, an easy walk from Hyehwa Station. It's the newly opened 3rd branch, located in Hyehwa.

Once inside, the interior was casual and decorated in a cute, dainty way

We went close to break time but the place was still nearly full of diners — that surprised me haha
Omil's menu and the set for two: what you get and what it costs
Omil Hyehwa Daehangno takes orders from a menu paper instead of a kiosk, which felt nice and personal, and the price and composition of the set menu felt reasonable. +) There's also a Naver review event running where you can get an ade drink, so check it out ✔️

We ordered the set for two that day
The set for two at Omil
- Chick rubber-duck omurice (fried rice topped with fluffy egg)
- Spicy fan steak risotto
- Omil soba maki (buckwheat noodle roll)
- Zero-sugar cola
- Orange juice
All together it came to 50,700 won! For two people, it's a set with two main dishes plus a side and drinks, so it was perfect for us since we wanted to try a bit of everything 😙

+) There was also a cute little self-service bar with pickles, water, and phone charging 🥒
Chick rubber-duck omurice at Omil, plus the free duck plush

First came my zero-sugar cola and grandma's orange juice — the cups and straws were cute, and I liked that they came in ice cups even more 🧊

The first dish to arrive was, of course, the chick rubber-duck omurice that had caught my eye in photos before — it looked cute in pictures, but even cuter in person 🥹

On top of the fluffy egg omurice sat round quail eggs, plus a tiny rubber duck decoration, so it was one of those dishes you photograph the second you see it 📸

There was also a generous amount of rich brown sauce poured around the omurice — eating the soft egg, salmon fried rice, and sauce together, the seasoning was really well balanced

The egg was moist and soft, pairing well with the sauce, and overall it felt like an omurice that wasn't overly seasoned — easy for anyone to enjoy. Since I went with my grandma, I was a little worried whether it would suit her taste, but thankfully she ate it happily, so I was relieved 😋

+) The chick omurice comes with a free rubber duck plush, and grandma really loved it lol 🐥

How spicy is Omil's spicy fan steak risotto?
The second main was the spicy fan steak risotto! This was my top pick since I love spicy food 🔥 If the omurice was soft and light, the risotto felt richer and more flavorful

The sauce was creamy and spicy, the rice was cooked just right, and it had fan steak, mushrooms, and tomatoes mixed in — it was my favorite risotto I've had so far! +) It was also my grandma's first risotto ever, and she said it was tasty and ate it well 🙌

Since the name has 'spicy' in it, I thought it might be really hot, but personally I didn't find the spice level too intense. Even spice wimps can order this one without worry 🙆🏻♀️

Omil soba maki: buckwheat noodles instead of rice
Last was the side we ordered, the Omil soba maki! It looks a bit different from regular gimbap (seaweed rice roll) — the distinctive feature being buckwheat noodles instead of rice

Inside the seaweed were plenty of buckwheat noodles, egg, and cucumber — the plain flavor of the buckwheat noodles together with the crunchy cucumber and soft egg gave it a healthy feel 🍳

Even as a side dish, it had as much presence as the mains, and that playful egg face was the highlight 😆
Is Omil Hyehwa Daehangno worth a late lunch with grandma?
Today I finally visited a restaurant I'd wanted to try for a while! Not just the food, but the tableware and plating had cute touches too, which left a good impression
I thought I might be disappointed given how much I'd hyped it up, but the food was tasty and I liked the interior, so I think I'll be back 🥰
