In short

Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch is a handmade udon and Japanese restaurant near Exit 5 of Seoul National University Entrance Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Pouring the tsuyu over the toritenbukkake udon (cold udon topped with fried chicken thigh) and mixing it through made the springy handmade noodles and crispy chicken a filling meal. Kosi is worth a return trip whenever a craving for chewy noodles hits.

Did you know there are so many great restaurants near Seoul National University Entrance Station? I want to introduce my personal favorite among them. I stumbled onto this udon specialty restaurant called Kosi! I'm generally a noodle-dish lover, so whenever I hear about a good udon place, I go check it out. This time, what stuck with me most about Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch was the springy noodles! You get handmade noodles that are far more elastic and chewy than typical udon, so if you're looking for a udon restaurant near Seoul National University Entrance Station, this is the one I'd recommend.

Where is Kosi and when is it open?

Kosi, the udon restaurant near Seoul National University Entrance Station, isn't far from the station exit at all. Honestly, even a great restaurant doesn't get much foot traffic if it's hard to reach, right...?? But this place is right next to Exit 5 of Seoul National University Entrance Station, which made it even better. From what I remember, it was less than a 3-minute walk! (Great subway access!)

Inside Kosi: a warm wood-toned udon shop in Gwanak

Walking into the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the overall warm wood-toned atmosphere. The tables aren't packed too close together either, so you can eat comfortably! It has that distinct Japanese-restaurant feel, calm and clean, and I really liked it, haha.

The space itself feels warm, and it made me feel like I'd walked into an udon shop in Japan, which was oddly exciting, hahaha.

There are also solo-dining seats, so it looked easy to drop by alone without any hesitation (●'◡'●) The solo-dining side has floor-to-ceiling windows!

Kosi near Seoul National University Entrance Station has tons of udon varieties, plus tonkatsu, donburi, and more — the menu really makes it clear this is a dedicated Japanese restaurant. Among all of that, I ordered the toritenbukkake udon. Looking at the other tables, it seemed like tonkatsu was ordered just as often as udon. I'll have to try the tonkatsu next time I come~!

How the handmade noodles in Kosi's toritenbukkake udon taste

Finally, it arrived! The toritenbukkake udon is a cold udon topped with crispy fried chicken thigh alongside the noodles. You pour the tsuyu sauce that comes with it over the noodles and mix it in, so you really get to feel the texture of the noodles themselves. It's genuinely, genuinely delicious!!! Since I've always loved Japanese food, I've been to pretty much every udon place around this neighborhood. So I could really tell this place uses high-quality flavors and ingredients!

Springy handmade udon noodles

Don't the noodles look thick and springy? Apparently Kosi near Seoul National University Entrance Station only uses fresh noodles made with the 800-year-old Sanuki traditional method! On top of that, I heard the soy sauce is imported directly from Japan and simmered in-house for flavor — if they're using this kind of traditional noodle and broth-making method, does anything else need to be said...? The elasticity in the noodles really came through, and it got more delicious the more I chewed. Turns out this place was even featured on SBS's Life of Masters. It seems like all their other branches have long waits too? (This Seoul National University Entrance branch seemed pretty new too, but word already seems to be spreading.)

And the fried chicken thigh that comes with it was also a great pairing. Eating the cool udon and then having some fried chicken thigh in between made it feel like a properly filling meal~! I highly recommend this combo!
