Bongcheon restaurant, abalone braised pollock for two: Sangdo Neulbori

In short

Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch is a braised pollock and barley bibimbap restaurant a 5-minute walk from Bongcheon Station Exit 5 in Gwanak, Seoul. Two diners visited at 7pm on a weekend and shared the abalone braised pollock, which came with 4 abalones, then mixed two bowls of barley bibimbap from the self-serve bar. The sweet-spicy braising sauce and a side of dried seaweed at Sangdo Neulbori kept the rice disappearing.

I was craving spicy braised pollock again, so I visited Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch, famous as a braised pollock spot near Bongcheon Station!!

Where is Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch and how do you get there?

Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch is a 5-minute walk from Bongcheon Station Exit 5! The address is 379 Bongcheon-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul.

Besides braised pollock, they also serve barley bibimbap, cockle bibimbap, braised pollock stew, octopus hot plate, and ogumi hot plate, so keep that in mind. They also run with no break time, which I think is so great haha.

Inside Sangdo Neulbori at 7pm on a weekend

I visited Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch around 7pm on a weekend, and there were so many customers inside that I couldn't take many interior photos..

Restaurant interior and review event signage

They're also running a review event, so make sure to take part and grab something. You get soju or beer for a Naver review, and bibimbap for an SNS share — such a great deal!!

They also sell braised pollock and ogumi hot plate set meals at a great price as a lunch special!! ₩13,000, ₩14,000, you say?! The price is so good that I'm planning to come back for a lunch special next time haha.

There were also several kinds of braised pollock — original, dried radish greens braised pollock, and abalone braised pollock!!

The self-serve bibimbap bar and side dishes

The self-serve bar at Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch had radish salad, geolgali greens, bean sprouts, gochujang, and sesame oil prepared! You could also choose white rice or barley rice for your rice bowl, so pick whichever suits you and mix in the bibimbap ingredients! I ordered white rice since I wanted to eat it with the braised pollock too haha.

Full table setting with side dishes laid out

Here's the basic table setting! The number of side dishes is really something, right!!

The basic side dishes came out so generously that I loved it hahaha.

Abalone braised pollock: are 4 abalones enough for two?

This is the abalone braised pollock I ordered!! The look of it is insane 🤤 The radish and potato were completely cooked through and so delicious 🥹🤍

Bibimbap ingredients brought from the self-serve bar

These are the bibimbap ingredients I brought from the self-serve bar! When you add rice and mix it all together?! ㅠㅠㅠ I think you could easily eat two whole bowls of just bibimbap (next time, instead of gochujang, I'm going to mix in the braised pollock sauce!!). I was so full today that I could only manage two bowls.. but the sauce was so good I think I could go for three next time lol.

The abalone braised pollock had 4 whole abalones in it, so it was completely enough for two of us to eat!! Can you see the size of the pollock too, wow. There was also rice cake sticks, potato, and radish, so we got to enjoy a variety of things.

Bibimbap topped with pollock and wrapped in seaweed

If you put pollock on top of the bibimbap we just mixed and wrap it with seaweed?! It's amazing.. It would probably taste even better with a little of the braised pollock sauce added.

The sauce was so delicious that it tasted amazing even with just plain rice

If you add a little bit of pollock into the braised pollock sauce and mix it in together?! You reach paradise.. That combination of sweet-spicy sauce and savory seaweed.. 👍👍👍👏👏

They even had sungnyung (scorched rice tea) ready at the self-serve bar, so you can enjoy a perfect finish haha. The weather's gotten a bit chilly lately, so ending the meal with a warm bowl of sungnyung felt so good haha.

Is Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch worth a visit?

This time I ordered the abalone braised pollock at Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch. The dried radish greens braised pollock and barley bibimbap looked so delicious too that I think I'll visit again another day, if not for the lunch special hahaha.

It's been hard to find a good braised pollock place lately, so I think I'll settle on this one hahaha. If you're looking for delicious braised pollock or barley bibimbap near Bongcheon Station, how about a meal at Sangdo Neulbori?!
