Gangnam Korean restaurant set near COEX: Yangeunine

In short

Yangeunine is a Korean restaurant near Samsung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, serving bossam and pollack stew. My husband and I had the 48,000 won Yangeunine Set with boiled pork, blanched squid, basic pollack stew, and mul naengmyeon. Verdict: the pollack stew packed with roe and milt was my top pick.

Yangeunine Set signature meal spread

My husband and I were out by Samsung Station when a sudden craving for soju hit, so we went to Yangeunine (양은이네), a great spot in Samseong-dong. Here’s my honest review of the Yangeunine Set, which comes with bossam, pollack stew, and mul naengmyeon!

Where is Yangeunine on the back streets of Teheran-ro?

Yangeunine is really close to COEX. You can find it one block in from the main road.

Yangeunine restaurant exterior on a back street off Teheran-ro

This place is all about two dishes: pollack stew and squid bossam. They have been running the restaurant for over 50 years—wow—and it is already a famous bossam place that even Tzuyang has visited. Yangeunine also has a lunch special! From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, spicy pollack stew, a bossam set meal, and naengmyeon are ₩12,000 per person. Worth keeping in mind if you are having lunch around here.

What are the self-serve bar and dried-radish soybean paste soup like?

Restaurant interior with yellow walls and a black ceiling

Inside, the walls are yellow and the ceiling is finished in black. It was a clean interior with the feel of a Japanese chain restaurant. Four-person tables are lined up, and there is plenty of room. It looked like a good place for a company dinner or group gathering, too.

Self-serve bar side-dish selection

When you finish the side dishes, you can help yourself to more. There is a solid spread of lettuce and perilla leaves, seasoned bean sprouts, kimchi, garlic and Cheongyang chili peppers, and ssamjang (savory dipping paste).

Warmer for dried-radish soybean paste soup

There is also complimentary siregi doenjangguk (soybean paste soup with dried radish greens). It is kept in a warmer for you to ladle out yourself. At lunch, steamed rice is unlimited too..!! Seeing hair ties and candy set out by the entrance made me think they really consider their customers.

What comes in the Yangeunine Set, and what can you choose?

Yangeunine Set menu components

We ordered the Yangeunine Set for ₩48,000. It brings three things together: spicy pollack stew, squid bossam, and naengmyeon.

Guide to the set meal choices

When ordering, you need to choose two things. Pick one pollack-stew style—basic, spicy, or clear broth—and one naengmyeon style: mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth), spicy mul naengmyeon, or bibim naengmyeon (mixed cold noodles). We chose the basic stew and mul naengmyeon. Steamed rice is not included in the set, so order it separately if you want rice too.

Basic table side dishes and sauces

The table is first set with ssamjang, chojang (sweet-and-tangy chili dipping sauce), Cheongyang chili peppers, garlic, seasoned bean sprouts, and seasoned shredded dried radish.

Which was my top pick: bossam, pollack stew, or mul naengmyeon?

Squid bossam

A plate of squid bossam

It arrives piled high on one plate. There is boiled pork, blanched squid, seasoned chives, rolled kimchi, two kinds of salted seafood, sauces, and ssam greens—all on the one plate.

The rolled kimchi is napa cabbage kimchi rolled up with seasoning on top.

The boiled pork was moist and tender. There was no gaminess at all, so it was good even just picked up and eaten on its own.

Make sure to have both the squid rings and tentacles together. The seasoned chives are lightly seasoned, so I kept reaching for them.

A squid bossam ssam wrap combination

My favorite combination was “lettuce + rolled kimchi + boiled pork + squid.” The savory depth of the kimchi seasoning fills your mouth.

There were two kinds of salted seafood too, so it was nice to make lots of different combinations.

It is absolutely perfect soju food!! The soju just keeps going down.

Spicy pollack stew

It comes in a pot topped with loads of green onion. Once it is set on the gas burner, you let it boil as you eat. It is simmered with plenty of radish, so the broth tastes so refreshing. It went really well with soju!!

The roe and milt just keep appearing?! Scoop some out, and there is more and more. If you love fish roe, I think you will absolutely fall for it haha. The pollack was nice and plump too. There was so much flesh that it felt like a main dish, not a side. The pollack stew was my top pick 😋

Mul naengmyeon

Mul naengmyeon filled with slushy ice

This is not just mul naengmyeon—it is ice naengmyeon lol. It comes absolutely full of slushy ice. I loved being able to eat it cold right to the end!!

Thin, chewy mul naengmyeon noodles

The noodles are thin and chewy. The broth itself is tasty, so I think it would suit almost anyone. Even though I was full, I kept eating it haha. Having this after the hot pollack stew made it feel even more refreshing.

Why it is good for company dinners or gatherings

Self-serve sujeonggwa dessert station
Cinnamon-scented sujeonggwa dessert

After you finish and come out, there is self-serve sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) for dessert. Its cinnamon aroma is strong, so it is great after spicy food. I do not usually drink sujeonggwa, but this one was incredibly good?! Perfect to the very end...✭

The Yangeunine Set is excellent in both portion and composition, so I think the value gets even better when you come with a group.

Personally, the pollack stew is this place’s secret weapon, haha. I loved that the roe and milt kept appearing, and the mul naengmyeon full of ice too. It is well known enough that Tzuyang has visited, but what stayed with me even more was the range of thoughtful extras, from the dried-radish soybean paste soup to the sujeonggwa.

Closing visit to Yangeunine restaurant

The staff were cheerful and kind, so I left in a good mood 💛 If you are looking for somewhere in Samseong-dong for a company dinner, gathering, or drinks, definitely try Yangeunine for bossam near Samsung Station.
