Gimhae Chinese restaurant for ganjajang and tangsuyuk: Dongbaek

I took a weekend trip to Gimhae! After all that playing, it was time for something delicious too! ✨ While looking for somewhere to eat out, I found this Chinese restaurant with a clean, upscale atmosphere, so right in we went!! Dongbaek, a Gimhae Chinese restaurant where you can enjoy everything from classic Chinese dishes to course meals—shall we go in? 🥢

Dongbaek location, parking, and hours

It is on the first floor at 514 Gaya-ro, Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam, and is open daily from 11:00 to 21:00. Break time is 15:30–16:30.

There is a parking lot in the building, so parking was easy too! 🚗 After parking, just take the stairs up to the restaurant! Being able to park right in the restaurant building was so convenient, convenient 🙌

Inside Dongbaek, Gimhae's private-room restaurant

True to a Gimhae restaurant known for private rooms, it was genuinely much bigger inside than I expected!! There were lots of seats overall, plus rooms in different sizes to suit your group, haha. It seemed perfect not only for a family meal with children, but also for bringing your parents, family gatherings, company dinners, 70th or 80th birthday celebrations, and other group get-togethers 💗

The self-service bar was kept neat too! Just help yourself to whatever you need there ^.^

Dongbaek menu and order

As you'd expect from a restaurant specializing in classic Chinese cuisine, they had a wide selection of course meals too~! You can enjoy a hearty course, or order only the individual dishes you want! There were so many menu options that choosing was seriously hard!

Order complete: the tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork) set—mini tangsuyuk, fresh-meat ganjajang (black bean noodles with separately stir-fried sauce), and seafood jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup)—plus jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) 💗

Crisp tangsuyuk with tangy sauce

The tangsuyuk came out first! 💗 It arrived with a glossy pink sauce drizzled over it, and the sauce was a little tangier than typical tangsuyuk sauce! The pork was thick and tender, with no off smell. You can tell from one bite that the meat itself is fresh! So fresh. The batter was completely crispy!! Haha. Compared with the sweet tangsuyuk most people usually have, this one had a bit more of a tangy point to it.

Seafood jjamppong with a deeply flavorful broth

As befits seafood jjamppong, it was packed with seafood! 🦐🦀 With mussels and even blue crab in it, the broth had such a wonderfully refreshing base >,< And it had depth too. So rich!! ´╹ᗜ╹`*

The noodles were springy and chewy too. With its refreshing yet deep broth, I think anyone could enjoy it without much division of opinion ^.^

Fresh-meat ganjajang loaded with pork

The fresh-meat ganjajang is especially popular here! It is made by stir-frying generous amounts of domestic pork with black bean paste. There were so many huge chunks of meat that they caught my eye even more than the noodles! Clearly, it is not called fresh-meat ganjajang for nothing... Of all the ganjajang I've had so far, this was the best when it came to being generously loaded with meat! The bites of pork throughout with that black bean sauce? Yum, haha.

House-made jajangmyeon and after-meal coffee

Yeping passed on fried rice and picked jajangmyeon instead! Hahaha 🖤 Dongbaek makes its own noodles, and they were so springy, chewy, and tasty that the noodles in either jjamppong or jajang dishes were definitely appealing! The jajangmyeon had a rich, nutty black bean sauce, with an easygoing flavor that children would probably enjoy too 😆 Both jajang dishes were good, but... I still vote for the fresh-meat ganjajang!! 🙋♀️ Hahaha. I loved that meat-filled texture!

There was even coffee ready to enjoy after the meal across from the counter! ☕️ Love it.

Dongbaek is a Gimhae Chinese restaurant that was comfortable for family meals with children, thanks to its spacious, clean dining room and variety of private rooms! With options from individual dishes to sets and course meals, I recommend giving it a visit if you are looking for somewhere to dine with your parents or hold a family gathering ^.^
