Yukhoe and homemade spicy ssamjang at Manpo Galbi, Yangju

In short

Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch is a two-story charcoal galbi restaurant on Songnang-ro in Yangju, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered 180g Korean beef yukhoe and two servings of fresh pork ribs, added two more when the portions looked small, and ended up too full to finish the free handmade Hamhung-style naengmyeon — but the real standout was the spicy-tangy homemade ssamjang. With ample parking and seating across two floors, it's an easy pick for a family meal with kids or parents.

Table spread of galbi at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch

I was looking for somewhere to eat meat with family in Yangju and ended up at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch. I wanted a place I could take my parents to, and also good for a family outing with a kid — and from the parking lot to the interior, everything felt spacious, so the first impression was great. But the thing I remembered most that day wasn't the ribs, the yukhoe, or the naengmyeon... it was the ssamjang (dipping sauce). 😆

Location and parking at Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch

  • Address: 65 Songnang-ro, 1st floor, Manpo Galbi, Yangju, Gyeonggi, South Korea (1st and 2nd floors)
  • Parking: large lot available in front of the restaurant
  • Restaurant: spacious with seating on both the 1st and 2nd floors

The building itself was big, so it wasn't hard to find, and best of all the parking space was huge. Parking is a surprisingly important thing when going to a BBQ restaurant, right? Especially if you're going with parents or a bigger family group — a place where you get exhausted before you even sit down because of parking is a bit much, but I didn't have to worry about that here.

A spacious, clean Yangju BBQ restaurant good for family dinners

The interior was pretty spacious too. The tables weren't cramped and the overall atmosphere felt tidy. With seating up to the 2nd floor, it also seemed like a good option for family gatherings, group meals, or company dinners.

Banchan spread and 180g Korean beef yukhoe

Once we ordered meat, the side dishes came out neatly, one by one. Salad, shredded green onion, kimchi and other sides that go well with meat — everything felt clean overall. That day we first ordered the 180g Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef tartare) for ₩28,000 and two servings of 200g fresh pork ribs for ₩42,000.

180g Korean beef yukhoe topped with egg yolk and scallions

The yukhoe came out beautifully stacked with egg yolk, chopped scallions, and sesame seeds piled on top — it looked delicious just from the visuals.

But I didn't get to eat much of it. My kid ate almost all of it. Hahaha. Must have been tasty.

The two servings of ribs looked small, so we added more...

Two servings of fresh pork ribs on the charcoal grill

Once the charcoal came out and we put the ribs on, my first thought was, "Huh, this is two servings but it looks a bit small?" So... we ordered two more servings. That turned out to be our big miscalculation of the day.

Grilling large whole cuts of galbi

Since the meat came out in large, whole pieces, it didn't look like much while sitting on the grill — but once it was grilled and cut up, the story completely changed.

A generous pile of grilled and sliced charcoal galbi

There was an enormous amount of meat. We ended up so full that we couldn't even finish the naengmyeon (cold noodles) we ordered later. 😂 The ribs, grilled over charcoal, had a subtle smoky aroma and the meat was tender.

What I remembered most at Manpo Galbi: the ssamjang

What stuck with me most at Manpo Galbi was, surprisingly, the ssamjang.

It wasn't the usual store-bought ssamjang flavor you get at most BBQ restaurants. It seemed like they'd added their own seasoning. It was slightly spicy and a bit tangy too — the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for your chopsticks. The meat was already tasty on its own, but dipping just a tiny bit into this ssamjang cut the greasiness and kept you eating more.

My kid had already put down the chopsticks, saying "I'm full, I can't eat any more meat." So I said, "The ssamjang here is really good, just try a little dip." My kid dipped a bit and tasted it... and then started eating meat again. Despite clearly saying they were full, they ended up eating five or six more pieces dipped in ssamjang. I think that says it all. 🤣

If you're personally going to Manpo Galbi, definitely try the ssamjang with your meat.

Steamed egg and doenjang jjigae too

While eating meat, I got a craving for warm steamed egg, so we ordered that too. The fluffy steamed egg wasn't too salty and was soft, making it good to eat between bites of meat. Especially with kids, it's nice to order one soft dish like this alongside everything else.

Doenjang jjigae with tofu and vegetables

And we got the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) free with a Naver follow coupon. At the time of my visit, following Manpo Galbi on Naver Place got you a free doenjang jjigae coupon on weekdays. I reserved through Naver in advance and selected the coupon at the same time, so we got to try the doenjang jjigae for free too.

After eating meat, you always crave a warm, spicy broth, right? The doenjang jjigae had tofu and vegetables in it, and it was great to eat with rice after the meat. If you're planning a weekday visit, it might be worth checking Naver Place for a follow coupon before you book.

Free handmade Hamhung-style naengmyeon after the ribs

After eating meat, you start craving naengmyeon, right? One of the great things about Manpo Galbi Yangju Main Branch was that you get free handmade Hamhung-style naengmyeon. You can choose between mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles), so everyone can order to their taste. We ordered one of each, but since we'd ordered so much extra galbi, we ended up unable to finish the naengmyeon. This is Hamhung-style, so the noodles are thin — if you like thin noodles, you'll probably like this.

The mul-naengmyeon broth had a clean flavor and was tasty, though personally I think it would have been even more refreshing with a bit more ice to make it colder. Still, it was good for cleansing the palate after eating a lot of meat.

The bibim-naengmyeon sauce was also good. It wasn't just spicy — it paired well with the noodles, and again, topping it with a piece of galbi made it even better.

Galbi plus naengmyeon really is cheating.

Ice cream and coffee after the meat

After finishing the meal, you can also have ice cream.

Dessert ice cream served on a rice cracker

With ice cream piled onto a rice cracker, there's no way kids can walk past this. Haha. Even after saying they're full from the meat, there's always room for dessert.

A cup of coffee to finish the meal

Coffee was available too, so it was nice to finish the meal with a cup instead of leaving right away.

A good Yangju restaurant to go to with parents

After visiting Manpo Galbi this time, what struck me wasn't one particular thing but the overall comfortable dining experience. Big parking lot, spacious interior, neat side dishes, friendly staff. The meat was tasty, but from yukhoe to naengmyeon to steamed egg, there were plenty of things for a family to share and enjoy together.

So it seems like a good spot for a meal with parents, a family outing with kids, hosting guests, or a company dinner with a bigger group. And if I go again... I won't get greedy with the ribs from the start — I'll try a portion first and add more after. The servings are bigger than you'd expect.

And the ssamjang — seriously, please try it. 😆 If you've been looking for a Yangju BBQ restaurant with easy parking or a place to take the family for galbi, Manpo Galbi is worth considering.
