Suwon Italian restaurant lunch and jazz walk: The European
In short
The European Haenggung Main Branch is an Italian restaurant in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi. We had burrata Margherita wood-fired pizza and Bolognese lasagna before walking around the 2026 Suwon Jazz Fringe Festa. Verdict: a lovely weekend lunch-and-stroll date course.

We went to Haenggung-dong for a weekend lunch date :) There are so many great places to eat in Haenggung-dong, but that day we had lunch at The European Haenggung Main Branch (더유로피언 행궁본점), known for its wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta. We planned to enjoy a delicious lunch and then stroll around Haenggung-dong, and as it happened, the 2026 Suwon Jazz Fringe Festa was on that day too—so it turned into an even lovelier date than we expected ♥
How did we handle weekend parking in Haenggung-dong?

Those of you who have driven to Haenggung-dong on a weekend will know... parking really isn't easy 😂 The European Haenggung Main Branch doesn't have its own parking lot, so you need to use nearby public parking. The Hwaseong Haenggung outdoor public parking lot is right in front of the restaurant, so if there's a space, that's the most convenient option. Its location is also great for walking straight to Haenggung or Haengnidan-gil after eating, so you don't need to move your car again!
That said, public parking fills up quickly at weekend lunchtime or when there is an event in Haenggung-dong, so I recommend arriving with plenty of time before your reservation and parking first. On days with festivals or events like the day we visited, there are far more people around, so it's best to factor parking time into your plans. Please refer to the information below for parking lots near Haenggung and their fees! :)

The European Haenggung Main Branch, a Haenggung-dong wood-fired pizza spot

After parking, we finally headed to The European! The exterior suited the Haenggung-dong atmosphere beautifully while also feeling a little like a European restaurant, so the mood was lovely even before we went in.

Once inside, the restaurant was quite a bit more spacious than I had expected from the outside, and the tables were nicely spaced, making it comfortable for a meal. The overall atmosphere was calm and refined, so it seemed like a nice choice for a Haenggung-dong date, a first date, or an anniversary meal too.

The European is especially known for its wood-fired pizza, and there were more pizza options than I expected. There was also a good variety of Italian dishes, from fresh pasta to gnocchi, ravioli, and steak.

Each table has a Catch Order QR code, so you can scan it to browse the menu and order right away. It was very convenient ☺️
What did we order?!
The two things we ordered that day were 1. burrata Margherita wood-fired pizza and 2. Bolognese lasagna..!
Burrata Margherita wood-fired pizza

First of all, it looked so appetizing as soon as it arrived! The pizza baked fresh in the wood-fired oven had a chewy, nutty crust edge, so even the parts without toppings were delicious. There were generous toppings too, and I loved getting all sorts of flavors and aromas together in each bite.
Bolognese lasagna

It paired well with the pizza, and together they made for a very satisfying lunch for two. If you want Italian food in Haenggung-dong and are looking for somewhere where the food is properly delicious—not just a pretty place—I think it is worth trying :)

A Haenggung-dong jazz date after lunch

And here is why the date was even better that day! After lunch, we walked slowly toward Haenggung to help our food settle, and it happened to be during the 2026 Suwon Jazz Fringe Festa. Jazz performances were taking place all around Haenggung-dong, giving it a completely different atmosphere from usual.
After filling up on delicious food, we walked slowly around the peaceful Haenggung area with jazz music drifting over from every direction, and the atmosphere was just wonderful ♥ We came across a performance as we walked, found a spot on the grass, and sat listening to jazz for a while. Sitting on the grass and listening to live jazz in the weather that was just starting to turn cool made it feel like we were having a proper weekend without having to travel far! Hwaseong Haenggung's distinctive atmosphere went unexpectedly well with jazz.
In particular, Haenggung-dong felt as if it had become one big performance venue that day: as you wandered around, music naturally reached you. Rather than setting a destination and going from place to place, simply walking slowly became the date course itself. Delicious lunch at The European Haenggung branch → a cold drink and a walk around Haenggung-dong → sitting on the grass to listen to jazz ❤️ Or browsing the little gift shops 🖤 This course was so good :) If you are planning a Haenggung-dong date while the weather is gradually getting cooler, this is a course I would personally recommend.
I recommend The European Haenggung Main Branch to anyone looking for an atmospheric Italian restaurant in Haenggung-dong or who loves wood-fired pizza! After your meal, don't head straight home—be sure to take a slow walk toward Haenggung :) We had delicious food, enjoyed Haenggung's special atmosphere, and wandered about at an easy pace, so it really felt like a proper weekend date haha
