The writer visited on a friend's recommendation, was given basic snacks and a hangover-relief jelly on sitting down, and looked around the dart machine, the guestbook notebook and the signature cocktail menu. Because Yahwa Honsul Bar allows outside food (alcohol excepted), it is a good bar to bring your own snacks to and stay a long while.

In a private room at Manseokjip, the writer ordered Hanwoo gopdoritang (Korean beef tripe and chicken stew) for ₩26,900, Manseok yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) for ₩19,900 served with gamtae seaweed and cheese, a green grape mojito and a non-alcoholic highball, and found the tablet for ordering and calling staff handy. Manseokjip Suwon Station Branch is a good room for group get-togethers near Suwon Station, including friends who don't drink.

Siheung Korean BBQ after golf at Salt Bay: beef ribs, Daehwa Sutbul

Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch is a charcoal-grill beef rib restaurant in the Yuseung Hannaedeul shopping complex in Janggok-dong, Siheung, near Salt Bay. After a round of golf at Salt Bay, the writer booked through Naver and ordered the Gyeongju-style marinated beef rib platter for two, which came with garlic-topped beef ribs, tortilla wraps, handmade sausage, chicken knee cartilage meat and kalguksu. Daehwa Sutbul Garden served a beef rib meal that warmed the writer up on a cold day after golf.

Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch (못생긴뚱돼지 청당점) is a fresh pork BBQ restaurant in Cheongsu-dong (Cheongdang-dong), Cheonan. Two friends had 2 servings of fresh pork ribs and 1 serving of pork jowl, all grilled by staff, then finished with a 13,000 won kimchi stew, said to serve 2.5–3 people, with gangyebap (soy sauce egg rice). The juicy thick ribs and rich kimchi stew at Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji were good enough that the friends plan to return without the car for soju.

Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch is a bright, comfortable Korean restaurant in Dalseo, Daegu, about 332m from Exit 5 of Gangchang Station near Keimyung University. The writer and a friend came just after the lunch rush for mackerel gondre rice (Spanish mackerel over rice with Korean thistle) and yukhoe bibimbap (beef tartare rice bowl), ₩14,000 each. The food came out quickly, and the mackerel gondre rice wrapped in roasted rock seaweed was so good they asked for a seaweed refill. For a filling Korean lunch near Gangchang Station and Keimyung University's Seongseo Campus, Hyangtaek is a safe pick.

Pet-friendly pub in Deokcheon, Busan: crab stew & highball, Jansang

Jansang (잔상) is a new Korean pub on Deokcheon's Youth Street in Buk-gu, Busan, and its terrace patio welcomes pets. On a rainy evening at a Jansang patio table, the writer got complimentary kkulkkwabaegi (honey twist crackers), a doenjang (soybean paste) based crab stew and a highball that tasted like it had a generous pour, and finished the large pot because the crab stew broth grew deeper the longer it simmered. The crab stew and highball pairing is worth ordering at least once at Jansang.

After eating at Hyangtaek's Dongseong-ro branch twice, the writer made a third visit at the Daebong Branch for mackerel gondre rice (₩14,000) and yukhoe bibimbap (₩14,000, with Korean beef tartare), and named mackerel gondre rice wrapped in gopchang gim (thick, rough-textured laver) and dipped in chive soy sauce as the favorite combination. Hyangtaek Daebong Branch is a neat, clean Korean rice restaurant where ordering the mild mackerel gondre rice and the rich yukhoe bibimbap together to eat in turns works best.

Fruit makgeolli bar in Beomgye, spicy pork tofu kimchi: Bueongi

Bueongi Sanjang Beomgye Branch is a Korean pub on the 2nd floor of a building facing the Rodeo Fountain in Beomgye, Anyang. After work, the writer ordered pork jowl suyuk (boiled pork) with bossam kimchi and jeyuk tofu kimchi (spicy stir-fried pork with tofu and kimchi), plus a draft beer and a glass of bokbunja makgeolli, for a total of ₩56,500. With cozy wood tones, juicy pork jowl, smoky jeyuk tofu kimchi and sweet fruit makgeolli, Bueongi Sanjang is a satisfying all-round bar in Beomgye.
